Our vision for Surgery at BD
In Surgery, our products empower providers to reduce the incidence of surgical
complications, improve patients’ experiences and lower the total cost of surgical care.
About the role
The Pre-Clinical Surgeon will be responsible for study director-level oversight of
several scientific studies conducted within the Pre-Clinical Affairs Group. This position
includes study specific responsibility for the design, coordination, execution and reporting of
biomedical animal research studies to aid in the design and development of medical devices
for soft tissue repair/reconstruction. This position is also responsible for generating assigned
external (Pre-Clinical) Scientific Communications by leveraging study data and integrating
Key Opinion Leaders (KOL) into the development of whitepapers, peer-reviewed publications
and/or advanced marketing collateral to support comprehensive marketing efforts at and
following product launch. An additional responsibility of this position is to serve as the primary
or consultant surgeon for all Pre-Clinical studies executed by Davol.
Main responsibilities will include:
 Integrally involved with all aspects of Pre-Clinical Affairs animal study
execution including, familiarity with surgery/immunology fundamentals, protocol
development, study coordination, scheduling, implementation, data analysis/interpretation, and
report writing.
 Serving as the primary or consultant Pre-Clinical Surgeon on all studies
executed by Davol.
 Leading the Pre-Clinical Affairs efforts of several project teams simultaneously.
 Interfacing with internal Scientists/Engineers, and acting as the Sponsor Study
Director at external animal research laboratory facilities.
 Coordinating the preparation/sterilization of appropriate test/control articles for
implantation.
 Involvement with Pre-Clinical Affairs study quoting and budgeting as
necessary.
 Reviewing scientific literature in order to stay current as needed in the industry.
 Generation of scientific whitepapers and peer-reviewed literature.
 Special projects as assigned.
About you
  Ph.D. or MSc in veterinary/animal science, biology, physiology, or related field
with 1-3 yrs hands-on experience in either an academic, industrial or CRO laboratory setting
 Familiarity with surgery/immunology fundamentals as evidenced by successful
animal study execution within the academic environment or medical device industry.
 Previous experience as a Pre-Clinical study director/coordinator.
 Knowledge of the peer-review publication process, as evidenced by biomedical
research publications.
 Demonstrated understanding of anatomy/physiology fundamentals.
 Demonstrated understanding of surgery/immunology fundamentals.
 Demonstrated understanding of the biological aspects of wound healing.
 Proven understanding of analysis/interpretation of medical device
histopathology.
 Proven understanding of statistical analysis and the use of statistical software.
 Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
 Must be able to trouble-shoot and problem solve to support successful animal study

according to which my surgical skills are
looked up well. In addition, the given job is
helping me improving my organisational, time
management and clerical skills.
