Essay 1: Reflection Questions

Something I learned in ENGL 1301 that was a great tool to use here was the importance

of viewing and analyzing sources. Not just peer-reviewed sources because that’s more focused in

1302 however I just have vivid memories of my ENGL 1301 professor strictly repeatedly saying

that the sources and information used from your sources is very important and can shape your

essay. So it I guess in a sense made it rough choosing sources just cause of how picky I was with

them though I feel confident the sources I picked highlighted the information of my topic well.

Something I used as a tool from an entirely different class was to be open minded. This came

from my statics and dynamics lab surprisingly, I believe this is because the types of experiments

conducted in this lab are very broad, yet specific. There are many cases where the experiment

being performed is very clear on what’s trying to be presented though when actually doing any

calculations it’s difficult to see exactly how to get to the answer needed. This I feel along with

other labs teaches to be very open minded in the sense to take a step back and really soak in the

information you have presenting itself.

There’s not much I could think of when I recall on past English classes all the way to

high school, I feel as if all the information I’ve actually attained has been the information I need

to use. That being said I feel almost everything that’s been taught since high school English

classes has a purpose to be used in any essay or response. Something that wasn’t used for this in

comparison to a different class is influential opinions. In Philosophy class we study Aristotle and

Socrates and all their great ideas and what they thought was right. However I believe in ENGL

1302 the same thought process / analytical process is not used in comparison to Philosophy. This

is because in Philosophy you’re thinking not just about what that person is saying but how

they’re influencing it onto many more people. The experiment conducted and analytical process

used when finding information for this essay was much different than if I was doing it for

Philosophy.

I learned that constructing a routine fit to your needs could produce immaculate results

for an individual. This essay helped me learn that doing such simple things could help me want

to do so much more, accomplish so much more, look for so much more, and that’s with

everything in life not just other classes.

Something I think isn’t applicable to other classes from this essay is truly nothing at all.

From this experiment conducted and way I formulated writing the essay I strongly believe that

there isn’t anything that can’t be taken and used for anything in life, or other classes.

Writing reports / essays on experiments is much more intriguing and fun I feel like in

many ways while helping improve tremendously. After all the labs I’ve taken trying to conduct

this experiment and write a report on somewhat of my own terms felt like nothing but

excitement. Research is one of the things I love to do, and especially research that interests me or

betters my life, that being said it’s great and easy to be able to write about something you have

passion in. Going forward into the future any kind of instance of research or analyzing research

will be not second nature, though very familiar.

From what was told from my peers I don’t have any weaknesses however I know I have

many just like any writer. I remember my ENGL 1301 professor mentioning a couple of times I

don’t always know when to close or open a sentence, in other words I ramble a lot and I feel I

still do so but not to the extent of the past. However the strengths that were highlighted such as

clarity in my topic and passion for it have stayed the same. In 1301 a couple of friends in that

class mentioned it was easy to see how much I cared about writing something no matter what the

topic was.

The most challenging part of this essay had to be committing to the experiment itself and

trying at best to condense the information learned, created, and received in this essay. It is very

easy for this essay to be 20 pages long or just under 10 pages long however I feel I did as best a

job as I could in giving as much as I learned from the experiment into the essay. The least

challenging part I would have to say felt like going through the week if that makes any sense at

all. Once going through this experiment the week just began to blissfully go by sooner and

sooner with what felt like less weight on the shoulders.
