A blast of mysterious origins
erupted in the city, resulting
in the deaths of 19 citizens.
Among those dead is believed
to be the crime lord Xanathar
of the Xanathar’s Guild.
Continued investigations
by the City Watch and Force
Grey into the blast that rocked
the city six days ago has been
revealed. City teams continue to
clear the rubble from Skullport
and Waterdeep, despite their
efforts being hampered by
attacks and sabotage by the
denizens of Skullport. The City
Watch and Force Grey have
been on guard 24/10 to ensure
that all rescue teams can
continue their work unharassed.
Last night, a team uncovered
the corpse of a beholder from
the rubble, fuelling rumours
that the ancient beholder
menace Xanathar might as last
be dead.
The excavations have thus
far revealed an underground
labyrinth base from which the
infamous Xanathar Thieves’
Guild has operated out of,
starting a war with the Black
Network that has rocked the
city for almost a year. Rising
tensions suggest that the
SUPREME IN SALE AND INFLUENCE THROUGHOUT THE CITY OF SPLENDOUR.

New Evidence Fuels Rumours of
Death of Crime Lord Xanathar
Zentharim has delivered one
final stroke to end this war.
When questioned on his way to
the magistrates, Mr Davil
Starsong, a known Zentharim
representative, asserted, “We
had nothing to do with this. Just
because we’re Zentharim does
not mean we’re evil. It’s 1491.
You can’t just say things like
that. Rude.” Mr Starsong
remains in remand for
questioning in the headquarters
of the City Watch.

Magists and Protectors have
identified the presence black
powder at the blast side, a
controlled incendiary substance
that has been linked to a spate of
murders of half-elves in the past
few weeks.
“It’s not magic, I’ll give you
that,” Blackstaff Vajra Safar
tells the Enquirer. “Such a large
blast would have altered the
Weave in a way that we would be
able to detect. There is no major
alteration of the Weave
anywhere in the site.” When
question on the possibility of
Xanathar’s death, she says, “It is
too much to hope for.”
Despite the possible death
of the crime lord, the City
Watch warns that the guild was
larger than one ancient
beholder. Citizens are to be on
the lookout for known Guild
Agents. Captain Carrot suggests
that while not all denizens of the
Underdark are associated with
the Guild, it is a known
recruiting ground for
Xanathar’s Guild.
Since the blast, some parts
of the city continue to have
blocked sewers, as municipal
services under the Open Lord
Silverhand complete emergency
repairs on the stricken sewer
system. Unconfirmed reports
from the Waterdeep Wazoo,
despite their severely reduced
circumstances, indicate that the
Masked Lords of Waterdeep
have released funds to repair the
damaged sewer infrastructure.
With many creatures of
dubious origins living in the
sewers, the public is warned not
to engage any such creatures
that might venture, but to call
the Watch instead. The Daily
Trumpet continues to monitor
events as they unfold.

Pirate Attack Sinks
Ship from Baldur’s Gate.
A pirate attack along the sword
coast has sunk a refugee ship
heading towards Waterdeep and
Luskan 3 days ago along the
Swordcoast.
Despite the best efforts of
rowboat rescue teams, they were
unable to approach the wreck due
to threats from said Pirates.
Then, to the surprise of all, said
Pirate ship itself was struck by an
underwater force, sinking the
vessel. The rowboat rescue team
was then able to save several
refugee families and some pirates
who were brought to justice.
