Who is Jose Rizal?

Jose Rizal (1861-1896) is one of the most revered figures in Philippine history. He was a
multifaceted intellectual and a political activist, best known for his political writings that inspired the
Philippine revolution and ultimately led to his execution by the Spanish colonizers.

Why are we studying about him?

To recognize the importance of Rizal’s ideals and teachings in relation to present conditions and
situation in the society. To encourage the application of such ideals in current social and personal
problems and issues. To develop an appreciation and deeper understanding of all that Rizal fought and
died for.

What is his role in developing national awareness?

This Act provides for the promotion of environmental awareness through environmental
education which shall encompass environmental concepts and principles, environmental laws, the state
of international and local environment, local environmental best practices, the threats of environmental
degradation and its impact on human well-being, the responsibility of the citizenry to the environment
and the value of conservation, protection and rehabilitation of natural resources and the environment.

What are the effects of his writings on Filipinos?

He became one of the popular hero who fights for our country. He is one of example that
everyone of us can protect our own in our own ability. His influence became one of the inspirational
story of hero who is prodigy in writing to fight for foreign countries during colonizations.
