BASIC INFORMATION

1. BACKGROUND OF THE AUTHOR

 Mitchell David “Mitch” Albom was born on May 23, 1958 in Passaic, New
Jersey. He is an American author, journalist, screenwriter, dramatist, radio and
television broadcaster and musician. His notable works are Tuesdays with Morrie,
The Five People You Meet in Heaven, For One More Day, The First Phone Call
from Heaven and The Next Person You Meet in Heaven. Albom attended high
schools in Southern New Jersey and Philadelphia. He also attended Brandeis
University in Waltham, Massachusetts and earned a bachelor’s degree in
Sociology. He also attended Columbia University and earned a Master’s Degree
in Journalism and in Business.

 Ruby Pier – this is where Eddie worked as a maintenance man and it is where he
is killed on his 83rd birthday.

 War grounds – where he fought during the World War 2.

 Large mountain range surrounding a lake – this is where the people who had
suffered at Ruby Pier go.

 Various wedding receptions –Marguerite wants Eddie to feel comfortable at


wedding receptions.

 River – this is where Eddie learns the meaning of life.


II. CHARACTERS

1. Eddie – the protagonist of the story. He is killed on his 83rd birthday.

2. Eddie’s Father – the antagonist of the story. He is not very supportive and caring towards
his wife and sons. He often comes home drunk and become violent.

3. Eddie’s Mother – attempted to find peace but never got to achieve her goal.

4. Joe – Eddie’s older brother.

5. Marguerite – She is the fourth person that Eddie had met. Eddie’s one true love.

6. The Blue Man – He is the first person that Eddie had met. He was part of Eddie’s
childhood.

7. The Captain – He is the second person that Eddie had met. He is Eddie’s commanding
officer.

8. Ruby – She is the third person that Eddie had met. She was married to the man who
created Ruby Pier.

9. Tala – She is the last person that Eddie had met. She was the child that died in one of the
burning tents.

10. Amy or Annie – Eddie saved her from dying at Ruby Pier.

11. Dominguez – young attendant who works under Eddie at Ruby Pier.

12. Mickey Shea – a close friend of Eddie’s father.

13. Noel – Eddie’s best friend.

14. Mr. Nathanson – the caretaker of the apartment complex where Eddie’s parents lived.

15. Willie – young man who works under Dominguez at Ruby Pier.
III. ELEMENTS OF PLOT

 EXPOSITION

 In the introduction, it is stated that Eddie is on his 83 rd birthday. Eddie is


the maintenance man at Ruby Pier and that he tests the amusement rides to
ensure their safety. While checking the rides, a little girl talked to Eddie.
Eddie died from saving the little girl from a falling amusement cart.

 RISING ACTION

 Eddie has constantly been battling to gain his father’s approval. When
Eddie and his father stop speaking to each other, it made the situation
more worse. Even after Eddie’s father died, Eddie is still mad with him.
Eddie was also in great depression after he returned from war. He was in a
state of conflict with himself.

 CLIMAX

 The climax is when Eddie meets Tala in Heaven. Tala tells Eddie that he
burned her when he was trying to save her from the burning tents. She also
said that Eddie did save the little girl from dying.

 FALLING ACTION

 Tala tells Eddie that his purpose on Earth is to keep the children safe for
her.

 RESOLUTION (DENOUEMENT)

 Eddie resolves the conflict between him and his father. Eddie and
Marguerite are reunited with each other. When Annie arrives in Heaven,
Eddie is going to teach her the first lessons and that everyone is connected.
o COMMENT ABOUT THE BOOK

 It is a heart touching book with a beautiful story that is worth reading until
the last page. It provided me feelings of joy, happiness, heartbreak and
sadness. It also changed my view on life.

o MESSAGE THAT I WANT TO SAY TO THE READERS ABOUT THE BOOK

 It is definitely a must read book because it contains the simple yet life
changing lessons. It will change the way they view on life.

o LESSON LEARNED

 There is no such thing as random acts in life because we are all


interconnected.

 Forgiving and letting go lets you live your life to the fullest.

 The Power of Love is something you can’t go against with. “Life has to
end, but love doesn’t”.

 Life has a purpose. No matter what you do in life, you are here for a
reason.
