PROCEDULE OF PULL OUT TEST

1.1 Pull Out Test

The point of soil nail to be tested is prepared. The hollow jack is placed and the dial gauges is installed
to measure the deformation of the steel bar. The test is carried out based on sequence of load
increment and time interval as per table.

1.2 Method of Measurement.

Two(2) dial guages which were calibrated were set up to measure the displacement of the soil nail. The
dial guages were placed on a beam which is supported on stakes and unaffected by ground movements
due to the test.

1.2 Procedure of Loading.

The working load of the soil nail, is 9.15 tons and with the ultimate load at 18.30 tons respectively. The
load is increase at an interval of 25% of the working load. At loading stage, four(4) readings were taken
at each increment of load at an interval of 5 minutes for a period of 15 mins. At working load, the load
is maintained for 3 hours and reading are taken at an interval of one hour. Unloading the load to
neutral, will be at an interval of 50 % of the working load with the interval reading as above.

The load is further increased to the ultimate load, and at each loading stage, four (4) readings were
taken at an interval of 5 - 10 minutes. Upon reaching the ultimate load, the load is maintained for a
period of 6 hours at an interval of one hour per reading. Unloading the load to neutral, will be at an
interval of 50 % of the working load with the interval as above.
