From the East:
I want to congratulate the District Ritual Competition Team for
its score of 965 in the Zone Ritual Competition. The brothers of
Orange Park and W. B. Barnett did an outstanding job. We are
awaiting on the Zone 4 competition to find out if our score is the
best in the region. Only the best score in each region will make
it to the State Competition, which is held in Winter Park on May
28.
As we approach the annual Grand Communication, I encourage
you to look at the list of proposed legislation. A copy of the
legislation has been placed on our website. Feel free to ask
others questions about these proposals and let your voting
officers know your thoughts. Remember, this Communication is
open to all Master Masons. It is a great time and a great place to
get to know some of your brothers and their wives better. Feel
free to join us in Orlando this or any future year.

Unless otherwise noted in the Trestleboard, Dinner
WILL be served prior to all meetings and special
events.
Secretary’s Corner
Brothers,
Just this last week, two more Brothers sent me
their email address so that they get their Trestleboard
quicker and receive last minute changes and
announcements. This also saves the Lodge money for
postage. Please send me your email address and get
on the list.
Legislation for the Grand Lodge Communication
the end of this month has several very interesting and
somewhat controversial articles. The first meeting in
June the Junior Warden will report on the changes that
will come out of Orlando.
The change to our by-laws to increase the cost for
degrees was approved on March 12, 2011. From that
date on the cost of each degree will be $100. There
will be an additional cost with the original petition of
$15 which is the charge for the background check that
must be done.
A number of brothers have asked me about the emails they have
received regarding Investigation Committees. We have been
busy accepting petitions and referring them to committee. That’s
the easy part. The fun part, and I mean the fun part literally, is
the investigation part of the process. I have enjoyed each of the
investigations I have been a part of. If you are assigned to a
committee, contact the others assigned and coordinate a time that
works best for the whole group and with the candidate. It is best
to visit them at home, with their wife present. Get to know them
and answer their questions, but don’t take too much of their time.
Remember that, many men rush into this fraternity without their
wife’s blessing and quickly disappear from our meetings when
she eventually puts her foot down. Help the fraternity, up front,
by alleviating her concerns about what her husband is getting
himself into. Investigations are an important duty, as your
recommendation will be read aloud to the craft, prior to
balloting. In an upstanding lodge, there should be no surprises
at the ballot box. If the investigation committee has done a
proper job, then its recommendation should be followed at the
time of ballot. Any member who has information as to why a
person should not join the lodge, or become a freemason in any
lodge, should either bring this information to the attention of the
investigation committee or to the Worshipful Master as soon as
possible. We have quite a few to do and I would like to try and
get them into an Entered Apprentice Degrees as soon as we can.
