Typography refers to the use of Typeface and Font to present and arrange message in
order to communicate ideas effectively. The balance in arrangement allows readers to
read at ease. Typography has dual role as it does not only communicate verbally but
also visually so it ensures graphic balance.
A font refers to the variety of style and size of a particular typeface. In short, a typeface
will have various fonts. For example, Georgia Pro Cond Light, Georgia Pro Cond Semi
bold, and Georgia Pro Cond Black are fonts of Typeface known as Georgia.
a. What are some of the different ways in which typeface are categorized?
ii. Sans Serif are typefaces that don’t have curves or extended lines at the end such as
Arial, Calibri, and Corbel.
iii. Decorative typefaces are typefaces used for informal designs for decorative
purposes such as Freestyle Script, Forte, and Jokerman. These typefaces are
different has uniqueness.

b. What are the most crucial differences in type on-screen and type in print?
i. The most important difference in both types (on-screen and print) can be found in
terms of how they help to ease readability.
2. In type in print, serif is used as it helps to guide readers to read along its
line.
c. What are some of the factors that you should consider when selecting a typeface for
use on electronic presentations (such as multimedia presentation, multimedia applications
or web page)?
i. Category of Typeface
1. Serif, Sans-serif or decorative.
a. Sans -serif suitable for online prints.
b. Decorative can be used as header not for content.
iii. Length – content length. Typeface should suit the length of the message.
v. Audience – The typeface should cater to the target audience as in the demographic
factors.
vi. Fonts – The fonts size, style and colour should be considered upon choosing the
typeface.
