‘’HOW TO BATH THE PATIENT’’

1. Orientation phase
Nurse : "Good morning miss!"
Ny R : "Good morning"
Nurse : "I'm nurse intan . This morning I will take care miss from 07.00–
14.00. If I may know, what is your mother's name?"
Ny R : "My name is Rina"
Nurse : "How did you sleep last night, miss?"
Ny R : "Oh, I slept pretty well last night"
Nurse : "Oh yes, did you take a shower this morning?"
Ny.R : "Not yet"
Nurse : "Okay miss, because this morning you haven't taken a bath, I will
bathe you this morning so that you feel fresh and you get well soon.
We'll just do it here, miss, it won't take long, about 20 minutes. How
about it, miss, are you willing?"
Ny.R : "Yes, I am ready."
Nurse : "Okay, I'll prepare the tools first."

2. Working phase
1. Prepare the tools on the patient's right.
2. Inform and explain the action to be taken.
3.Install sampiran (closing windows, doors, curtains), blankets and pillows
removed from the bed (if pillows are still needed use as needed).
4. Position the patient as comfortable as possible.
5. Wash your hands.
6. Put on the bath blanket, the upper fold is held by the patient, the lower fold is
pulled together with the top sheet and the blanket towards the feet.
7. Inform the patient that the upper clothes must be removed and then covered
with a bath blanket / cloth cover (standing on the patient's right or left).
8. wash face:
• rugs and small towels are spread under the head
• clean the face, ears and neck with a washcloth that has been moistened
with water.
Ask if the patient wants to use soap or not.
• dry your face with a towel
• roll up rugs and towels.
9. wash the arm:
• lowering the bath blanket, lifting or allowing the patient to raise both
hands up.
• put the towel over the chest and spread it to the right and left so that both
hands can be placed on the towel
• Wet hands with a washcloth and apply soap starting (with hands away
from the nurse) and rinse thoroughly, then dry with a towel (soiled water
is changed immediately).
10. Do the same on the hand that is close to the nurse.
• Wash the chest and stomach:
• Lower the cloth cover to the lower abdomen. Both hands up, lift the towel
and spread it on the patient's side
• Wet and soap on the armpits, chest and stomach then rinse thoroughly
and dry with a towel
• Do it on the client side that is farthest then on the side that is near.

11. Washing the back:


• adjust the patient's position on the left side
• spread the towel under the back to the buttocks
• wet the back to the buttocks, soap, rinse and dry with a towel
• arrange the patient in the supine position and wear the top clothes neatly
(previously the patient wants to talk or not).
12. Washing the feet:
• take the leg farthest from the bath blanket and spread a towel under it and
bend your knees
• Wet the feet, apply soap and rinse then dry with a towel
• do the same on the other leg.
13. Washing the groin area:
• spread a towel under the buttocks and lower abdomen. The bottom
blanket is opened
• Wet the groin and genitalia then soap, rinse with clean water and dry with
a towel. For the genetalia area, you should use special soap.
14. Reuse the patient's bottom clothing and lift the bath blanket.
15. Put the patient's blanket back on and the pillows are arranged, the bed and
the patient are made back.
16. Cleaning tools.
17. Wash your hands.

3. Termination phase
Nurse : How do you feel after being bathed this morning? How do you feel?
Ny.R : I feel fresh, hair and clothes look neat
Nurse : "Okay, miss, because I've finished bathing miss, I'll go back to the
room first, for later in the afternoon or tomorrow morning if you want
to take a shower, you can do it like I did earlier, ask your family for
help, do you understand?
Ny.R : "Yes, thank you, I understand".
Nurse : "Please, mother, rest again, later I will come again at around 10.00 to
give an injection through the mother's IV tube, as a routine medicine
that must be inserted, not long miss, about 5 minutes and we will do it
here. Are you ready?"
Ny.R : "Yes, I am ready".
Nurse : "Okay ma'am, if you need help, call me in the nurse's room! Good
morning, miss".
Ny.R : "Good morning nurse".
