1.0 INTRODUCTION

1.1 Case Study Overview

The use of case study is to know more about company Naelofar maganed by Neelofa.
The method that we use is

The purpose here is to help develop such as understanding of the case study method.
We do so by dealing with three topic that we think are fundamental to appreciating it. We
start by examining the nature of case study. We provide a clear company background.
Second, we consider the information technology that use in the business Naelofar
company. So, we can see how they use IT for the website to make it easier for the person
to use the website when buying. Lastly, we give suggestion on what we want to improve
in the company’s website. Having done this three important information of the company.
We summarize about the website and benefits of IT to the business. This paper concludes
with a set of references that you can use to explore the case study and research in greater
detail.

2.0 COMPANY BACKGROUND

2.1 HISTORY OF COMPANY

Nowadays, majority Malaysian netizen knowledge that Neelofa has her own brand. In 2014,
Neelofa who are the prominent Malaysia celebrity and entrepreneur has found a modest-wear
brand which is Naelofar. In back then Neelofa started her business of beauty supplements
which is Bella Vitta with her younger sister, Nur Ameera Khan as face of the product then
followed by Lofalens product, a brand that can offer fashionable contact lens. Naelofar Abaya
also offer fashionable by featuring modern and stylish abayas as the beginning involvement
for the younger founder Neelofa in business world.

Neelofar could eventually become an entrepreneur herself even though basically, it


was her family business. However, Neelofa really loved fashion and has a passion for
business that can help her to start making her own brand. Then, she starts to have her own
small team that build of trusted and like-minded individual. Her teams and Neelofa decided to
revolutionize and facilitate a modest fashion to make shawls that more practical and easier to
wear. Neelofa expand her business by launching Naelofar Hijab which is an instant shawl in
December 2014 after countless brainstorming sessions, trial and error because she never
satisfied with, she had done.

Neelofar, itself never expect that her own brand could be accepted widely all around
the world and become an international brand. After that, her company started to sell its product
via online and bazaar. The instant shawls were a hit and stockists were appointed to handle
the increasing demand. Currently there are more than 100 stockists in Malaysia, Brunei and
Singapore. In January 2015, she opens her store in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur and
she started to sold her product at that store. Now, her shawls collection is export to more than
30 countries including Brunei, Australia, United Kingdom, Netherlands and United States that
make Naelofar Hijab as a global brand.
2.2 MISSION, VISION, OBJECTIVES AND GOALS

MISSION - Naelofar mission is they intend to be the leading hijab company in Asia with the
best shopping online and offline shopping experience.

VISION – Naelofar vision is to produce headscarves that are practical with the well-thought
design to ensure our customer to spend minimal time when putting on the headscarves.

OBJECTIVES - Naelofar objectives is they want to create new trend of hijab style experience.

GOALS – Naelofar aims to inspire women to always feel confident and empowered by their
decision to choose modest wear.

3.0 INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY IN BUSINESS

3.1 Business Functions in The Company

Business function in the company is important to ensure that the production of the company
will runs smoothly. Here is some business function in Naelofar:

3.1.1 Marketing

Marketing is an activity in a company that undertakes to promote the buying or selling of a


product or service. Marketing will include advertising, selling and delivering products to
consumers. In Naelofar, the marketing department are in charge of the advertising and
promote the products that been produce by the company. The products will be promoted
through social media, magazines, billboard, television and others. The strategic marketing
plan will make the customer to be interest in what kind of products that they are selling.

3.1.2 Accounting

Accounting is to provide the financial information to the stakeholder of the business such as
management, investors and creditors. This function will measure and summarizes the
activities in the company and will present the results to the management and other parties that
are interested. Accounting will provide an accurate data about the company’s asset, liabilities,
profits and cash position. Accounting will also evaluate the viability of investments. Other than
that, it will also take part in creating plans as plans that the company want to proceed will
include a budget. Budgets are important to run a business. These plans include cash flows
projections, sales planning, purchase of fixed assets and projecting inventory levels. The
accounting analysis will provide the basis in making the forecasts and develop the plan.

3.1.3 Human Resources Management

Human resources management includes planning, controlling, directing and organizing


company activities, utilization of workforce, recruitment and staffing. This department will play
a crucial role in employee retention and management that includes training, internal
promotions, bonus, employee engagement activities and also improve the workplace policies.
3.1.4 Production

Production is where it shows that the relationship between the quantity of output and different
quantities of inputs is use in the production process. The total output produced from the
chosen quantity of various inputs. Firms will use the production to estimate how many output
that they should produce given the price of a good and what are the right combination of inputs
that they should use to produce a given price based on capital and labour.

3.1.5 Administration

Administration in a business includes the performance of the business operations, decision


making and the efficient of the organization and other resources to direct activities to achieve
a common goal and objective. It can refer to the broader management function including the
associated finance, personnel and MIS services. There are five function of management such
as planning, organizing, commanding, coordinating and controlling.

3.1.6 Customer Service

Customer service will help the customers with the complaints or questions that they have. It
will help in giving the information about the products and services to the customers. Not only
that, customer service also take part in taking orders and process returns. By helping the
customers to understand about the products that the company sell, it can make the customer
to gain more knowledge about the product that they purchase.
3.2 FUNCTION OF IT DEPARTMENT

IT department has played many roles into the success and smooth management of the
company’s website. Without the IT department, the business will not expend as nowadays, IT
plays a big role for the business industry. Here are some of the functions of IT Department in
Naelofar.

3.2.1 Information and communication technology (ICT) services:

As a company who sells their products online, the need of ICT services is a must for the
website to run smooth and efficiently. In Information Technology (IT) services, it includes a
hardware and software consultancy to make the business more efficient, customised software
data processing and database services.

3.2.2 Purchasing

Purchasing is a data to obtain raw material, components, as well as the need for the production
to provide the goods or services. Purchasing can be divided into many aspects such as
request for quotation (RFQ), supplier market analysis, supplier selection, contact negotiation,
and purchase a plan implementation. Purchase plays a liaison role between various
departments within the organization and many suppliers from the outside of the company. The
goal of purchase is to develop a purchasing pan that can supports the company’s daily
operation and other strategic plans.

3.2.3 Security

Computer security or IT security is the protection of the computer systems and networks to
protect their hardware, software and electronic data from being damaged. In every company’s
website, security is the most important item that the company’s need to secure their personal
and customer’s data. Without security, the company’s will face danger from the threats of
hackers that can try to steal the data from the company’s website.
3.2.4 System Administration

System administration is where someone manage one or more systems such as software,
hardware, servers and workstations. The mission is to ensure that the systems that runs in
the website will be running efficiently and effectively. As a web administrator, they are
responsible to maintain the web server services such as apache or IIS that will allow the
internal or external access to the web sites. The task will require them to manage multiple
sites and configuring necessary components and software.

3.2.4 IT Marketing

IT marketing is an array of strategies and activities in IT department that must undertake to


convince the potential customers to choose their products or services. A solid strategy can
draw the attention of the target audience and can create business relationship with future
clients. It also can help to strengthen the effectiveness of the organizations and allow people
to learn about the products.
3.3 DATABASE SYSTEM USED IN THE WEBSITE

An organized collection of structured information or known as data is stored electronically in a


computer system. This database is controlled by database management system (DBMS). The
data and DBMS with the applications that associated with them are called database system
or database. Naelofar’s website has used various type of database system such as:

3.3.1 Relational Database Model

Naelofar’s use the model of relational database for their company’s website. Relational
database model is a model that stores information in the form of logically related two –
dimensional tables. This database use structure that will allow us to identify and access the
data in a relation to another data in the database. In other words, this mode; is an intuitive,
straightforward way of represent the data in tables.

3.3.2 Network Database Model

This model will allow multiple records to be linked to the same file owner. It can be seen as an
upside-down tree where the branches are the member information that linked to the owner
which be placed at the bottom of the tree. This database model is very flexible as it allows
multiple linkages. This database can be defined as many–to–many relationships because one
owner of the fine can be linked to many other member files.
3.4 BUTTON FUNCTION IN THE WEBSITE

When you open Naelofar’s website, this is the page that you will see. You can select your
country when you press the button beside the flag shape.

When you pointed your cursor arrow this ‘shop’ button, it will show you the products that they
sell in the company such as Hijabs, Ready to wear and many more.
When you pointed your cursor to the ‘collection’ button, it will show you the types of collection
that they have such as Swara, Sports, Yuri Stretch and many more.

When you press ‘store locator’ button, it will direct you to the page where you can calculate
the distance where you are from to their physical store.
After you press ‘shop’ or ‘collection’ button and picked the products that you are interested, it
will direct you to the page like this. You can select any of the products that you like by clicking
the picture.

After that, you can select how many items of the products that you would like to purchase.
After you have done that, press ‘add to chart’ button.
At the main page, on the right side, you will see three shapes. When you press the button that
have a shape like a person, it will show your account, like the page below.
Referring to the main page, when you press the button that have the heart shape, it will show
you the page of your wish list.

Referring to the main page, when you press the button that have a shape of a trolley, it will
show your cart.
When you scroll down, you can see variety of section from help service, shop products, shop
collections and Naelofar’s information. When you press any button under shop products or
shop collections, it will direct you like the same page as when you press ‘shop’ or ‘collection’
button earlier.

When you press ‘contact us’, it will direct you to the address of Naelofar’s headquarters with
information such as business operation hours and company email.
When you press ‘shipping’ button, it will direct you to the website shipping policy.

When you press ‘return & exchange’ button, it will direct you to the website return and
exchange policy.
When you press ‘FAQ’ button, it will direct you to the answers of questions that customer
commonly ask.

When you press ‘terms & conditions’ button, it will direct you to the company’s term and
condition.
When you press ‘about us’ button, it will direct you to the company’s introduction.

When you press ‘stockist’ button, it will direct you to the page of where all Naelofar’s product
stockist is located.
When you press the ‘our stores’ button, it will direct you the page above. This page will also
show if you press ‘store locator’ button on the main page. If you are using search by area, you
enter your country, state, city and zip code. After that it will shows you the location of the store
that nears you. If you are using the search by distance, enter your current location and radius.
4.0 SUGGESTIONS

1. Sale pop-up. The website should create the sale pop-up to remind and promote every
visitor about their discounted products so it will not stay hidden.

2. Create an account pop-up. Instead of sing up letter by email pop-up, the website
should persuade the visitors to create an account and get a discount for any items
webwide. By that, many visitors will be interested to create an account because they
can enjoy the discount offered. These features are using buyer power technique which
is loyalty program to attract the customers.

3. Testimonial pages. This is the section where the buyers are able to rate the product
based on their experience. The customer also can rate using stars 1-5 stars on every
product, so the product can classify as highly recommended and best sellers among
others. This feature using customer to customer method where the customers are able
to share their opinion and experience with other customers. It is also applying the
effectiveness IT metric method that can focus on how well an organization on achieving
its goals.

4. Live chat customer service. This is an important feature where the customers are able
to ask about their problems related to account issues, shopping guidance, payment
concern, order processing, logistic tracking, return related and refund details and able
get the respond immediately than needed to wait almost 3 days for the company to
respond. For example, using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology in expert system
where human expertise is transferred to the expert system and users can access the
expert system for specific advice.
5.0 CONCLUSION

To summarize, Neelofa has started business for 7 years starting in 2014. His business is well
known throughout Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Brunei. Nelofa is also expanding its
business internationally. Naelofar has been very popular every time it launches a new product.
Naelofar’s website is very easy to use and more information about the products that was sell.
Many benefits of IT to the Naelofar business such automation and productivity, information
protection and communication and collaboration.

The IT features added a new dimension towards Naelofar’s customers that use the Naelofar
website. It help customers know more about Naelofar;s products. Then, it also helps Naelofar
website gain customer’s trust by information protection to both parties. Besides, the IT easily
for customers to communicate with Naelofar’s. Organization Naelofar can get feedback or
suggestion from customers quickly. Information Technology will very helps Naelofar better
known globally.
