Before you start writing:

1. Make sure you understand what the task is about. Note (if necessary)
2. Make sure the title of the article.
3. Identify the key ideas from the task. (key ideas that are required to include in the article)
4. Think about what your opinion is and how you will use the notes provided.
5. Write down any ideas you have for the task.
6. Organise according to the required points.
7. Identify and use some good words/phrases appropriately.
8. Identify and used accurate registers according to the task appropriately.
Plan your article (I C E)
Paragraph 1 – Introduction
1. Introduce the topic of your article so the readers know what they are going to read about.
2. Get the readers’ attention by including an interesting fact or relating the topic to their own lives.
Suggested phrases: Can you imagine…?/Did you know that…?/Would you like to…?/Have you ever
wondered…?
Write your Paragraph 1 here: 1. Include the main idea
based on the question

Paragraph 2, 3 and 4 – key ideas 1, 2 and 3 - Content 1, 2 and 3
1. This is the main body of your article.
2. Expand on your ideas based on the key ideas stated in the task, describing them and supporting
them with examples and don’t forget to justify your opinion.
3. Make sure each paragraph starts by writing a key idea (main point).

Secondly…/Then there is…/Furthermore,…

When you have finished writing, check that:
a. you have followed your plan.
b. given your article a title.
c. have you caught the readers’ attention in
paragraph 1.
d. each paragraph starts with a main idea.
e. you have supported your ideas with example
and justify them
f. you have used formal language.
g. you used grammatically correct forms.
h. you have checked for spelling and punctuation
mistakes.
i. your writing style is suitable for the reader.
j. you have used appropriate linking words.
k. you have used appropriate cohesive devices.
