Ethics Performance Task

1. What do you see as the purpose of the Code of Ethics and Principles of
Professional Conduct of the Education Profession of Florida?
- The purpose of the Code of Ethics is to define ethics, which are the correct way in
which one should act, moral laws we must partake in. These should be done with
dignity and truth, making an effort each day to do the right thing. The purpose of
the Principles of Professional Conduct of the Education Profession of Florida is to
establish what ethics should look like for teachers as educators, caretakers, and
colleagues.

2. What is a specific detailed example from this semester when you demonstrated
being an ethical educator?
- In the Principles of Professional Conduct of the Education Profession of Florida,
it says that “(3) Obligation to the student requires that the individual: (a) Shall
make reasonable effort to protect the student from conditions harmful to learning
and/or to the student’s mental and/or physical health and/or safety”.
- I have demonstrated this principle by cleaning up the classroom so
students would not get physically hurt from spills and I have comforted
ELL students and students with 504 plans to ensure that they understand
the material and have a clear head to work. For example, I had a student
who was absent one day and came back the next day to the whole class
writing an essay. He got frustrated and started to cry, so I pulled him aside
and assured him that he would be ok and to take the assignment one step
at a time. I am pleased to say that he finished both his plan and the essay
on the same day. but had no plan.
- In the Principles of Professional Conduct of the Education Profession of Florida,
it says that “(5) Obligation to the profession of education requires that the
individual: (g) Shall not misrepresent one’s own professional qualifications”.
- I have demonstrated this principle by documenting my professional work
efforts on a blog that show the FEAPS I have completed as an intern with
evidence for each. It also contains my resume, with information that is up
to date and 100% true. https://colonmerced.weebly.com
3. How is each specific example connected to the Code of Ethics?
- The Code of Ethics not only talks about our duty to our students, but it talks about
professionalism as well. Our primary concern is for our students and we must
show that every day, being vigilant for dangerous situations and keeping the
learning environment safe. We must also portray ourselves as professionals and
role models inside and outside of the classroom, including social media. We are
responsible for future generations and how they are educated, this is a career
requiring maximum ethical judgement and decisions that can change everything
in a second. I choose to act like the Code of Ethics says and truly adopt the
educator’s values, making learning equal and available to all students.
- My first example talks of the concern of students, their learning, and their
safety while the second example I gave talks about my ethical conduct as a
professional.
