1.0 OBJECTIVE
The method statement below describes the whole procedures including material and
equipment required for welding API pipe joints and sand papering of paint and rust on API
pipes.
The method statement shall be for full welding of API pipe joints and sand papering of paint
and rust on API pipes.

Make arrangements to obtain and distribute the construction drawings to the relevant personal.
Submit the relevant certificates, product catalogues and brochures on the materials to be used for
approval prior to commencement of any work. Work shall not proceed without proper approval
from SO.

i. The API pipe shall be lifted and placed on top of the rolling equipment
ii. The end of the 1st API pipe shall be slotted into the collar until halfway.
iii. The welding rod, set onto a holder, shall be placed at the joint between the collar and the API
pipe.
iv. The rolling equipment shall then start spinning at a very slow speed.
v. The joint area between the API Pipe and collar is heated 1 st all around to clean during the first
round of one full spin. The welding process shall than start at the collar and API pipe joint as the
pipe is spinned at a slow speed.
vi. Once the process of the 1 st API pipe joint is completed. The 2 nd joint shall be slotted into the other
half of the collar.
vii. Process iii) to v) is then repeated
Refer to attached photographs of the sand papering of paint & rust as per Appendix 2.
a. The Client Representative shall be informed via RIN before proceeding with the work. The work
shall not proceed without approval from Client Representative. Contractor shall first inspect the
work completed by worker to its satisfactory prior request joint inspection from Client
Representative.

1. The workplace shall be efficiently protected against the detrimental effects of weather, for example, wind, rain, snow, and
draught.
2.The material surface in the joint area and welding consumables shall be free of rust or other oxides, paint, grease, scale,
remains from sandblasting, moisture, and other contaminants.
3. Traceability may be required e.g. for parent metal, welding consumables, welders/operators, documentation, and repairs.
Hard stamping should be avoided.
4.Weld finish shall be left as-welded unless specified.
5. Interpass temperature shall be check using the thermometer
6.Joint designs shown are not inclusive all those found on job or production.The design drawing shall take the precendence
over the joint design shown in the PQR. Any joint design outside this PQR shall be approved by an approved Engineer.

11. An increase or decrease more than 5% in the voltage stated in this WPS for each diameter used required requalification
12. An increase or decrease more than 25% in the travel speed stated in this WPS required requalification. Travel speed ranges
for all sizes of fillet welds may be determined by the largest single pass fillet weld and the smallest multiple-pass fillet weld
qualification tests.
