1. INTRODUCTION

The National Highways Authority of India was constituted by an act of Parliament, the
National Highway Authority of India Act, 1988. It is responsible for the development,
maintenance and management of National Highways entrusted to it and for matters
connected or incidental thereto. The Authority was operationalized in February, 1995
with the appointment of full time Chairman and other Members.

Title of the project:- Six laning of Chilakaluripet – Vijayawada section of NH-5 from
km.355+000 To km.437+750 in the state of Andhra Pradesh to
be executed as BOT(Toll) On DBFO pattern under NHDP
phase-V

2. PURPOSE

The 29 Road Safety week will be observed from 23 April to 30
April 2018. The purpose of Road Safety Week is to make public to understand
the importance of road safety. Thousands of people get killed and thousand
more are seriously injured every year in road accidents. Accident causing loss
of human life as well as loss of properties. The National Highway Authority
of India has taken the responsibility to educate the general public by
participating enthusiastically in the road safety week occasion.
The theme of the year is

“SADAK SURAKSHA
– JEEVAN RAKSHA”

ACTIVITY NO. 1st day 29th Road Safety Week from 23-04-2018 to 30-04-2018

BRIEF OF ACTIVITY:- Road safety week has been Inaugurated at toll plaza duly
participating stake holders of state government such as A.P. Police, A.P Transport Department,
AP Lorry Owners Association, Educational Institutions, Private Medical service Agencies and
public.

The following officers were participated in the inaugural ceremony:-

 In this program Director General of Police has released Pamphlet containing
information about the road safety signs and other necessary instructions.
 In this program more than 300 no’s of public has been participated.
 Program has been organized by Project Director, NHAI.
 In this program Dignitaries has delivered a valuable speech regarding importance of
Road safety, driver training, over speed, lane discipline with live example to reach
effectively to the public.
 In this program Project Director of NHAI has delivered speech on statistics of accidents
on National highways as well state highways and its importance safety education to be
implemented on National Highways.
 In this program Project Director, NHAI, Amaravati has delivered speech on importance
of 29th road safety week and involvement of stake holders.
 Other Activities :
1. The Eye camp conducted at our plaza premises. The eye specialist did screening for 82
no’s of truck drivers out of which eye glasses distributed for 49 no’s, identified cataract
cases are 2 no’s and persons with good vision is 31 no’s.
2. Educating the drivers regarding over speed at toll plaza through mike announcement.
3. Educating the drivers for usage of helmets at toll plaza through mike announcement.
4. Educating the drivers for usage of seat-belts at toll plaza through mike announcement.
5. Educating the drivers regarding lane-discipline and traffic rules at other important
junctions through Highway patrolling vehicles by public addressing system.
6. Necessary flex banners as well as hoardings were displayed at important locations such
as. Toll plaza, Public habitational areas, and other important junctions.
7. Distribution of pamphlets to road users regarding traffic signs which are useful while
driving and other road safety rules at toll plaza and way-side amenities has been taken
up.
