 • Introduction

Shear reinforcement is designed to resist shear forces in excess of the shear

strength of concrete. They are provided in forms of vertical or inclined
stirrups or longitudinal reinforcement bent up at 45 degrees at locations
where they are no longer needed to resist bending.

 shear reinforcement is provided in three forms; stirrups, inclined bent-
up bars and combination system of stirrups and bent -up bars. In reinforced
concrete building construction, stirrups are most commonly used as shear
reinforcement, for their simplicity in fabrication and installation.

TYPE 1 STIRRUP REINFORCEMENT

A stirrup is a closed loop of reinforcement bar, which has a main function of

holding the main reinforcement (RFT) bars together in a reinforced concrete
element. Stirrups can come in multiple shapes according to the design and shape
of elements. ... Stirrups are used to keep everything in a straight line.

TYPE 2 INCLINED SHARE REINFORCEMENT

This research provided experimental data on the effects of inclined shear

reinforcement in reinforced concrete (RC) beam. The behaviour of RC beams in
shear is complex. ... Two types of shear reinforcements are investigated,
conventional stirrups as the control specimen and inclined shear reinforcement.

 TYPE 3 BENT UP SHARE REINFORCEMENT

Bent up bars are also used along with stirrups in the past to carry some of the
applied shear forces. In case where all the tensile reinforcement is not needed to
resist bending moment, some of the tensile bars where bent-up in the region of
high shear to form the inclined legs of shear reinforcement.

What is the use of SHARE REINFORCEMENT

Whenever the value of actual shear stress exceeds the permissible shear stress of
the concrete used, the shear reinforcement must be provided. The purpose of shear
reinforcement is to prevent failure in shear, and to increase beam ductility and
subsequently the likelihood of sudden failure will be reduced .

be reduced. Normally, the inclined shear cracks start a t the middle height of the
beam near support at approximately 450 and extend toward the compression
zone
