a relaxing and restful winter
break!
Last Week: We started a new unit on HOLIDAY
LIGHTS & WINTER HOLIDAYS! After looking at a
variety of ways lights are used to light up the cold
winter nights, we targeted 2 main holiday;
Hanukkah and Santa Lucia. Students did a great
job using calming strategies after identifying “when
to take a break” during TeachTown and throughout
the day. In our Unique curriculum, we learned about
different traditions and review vocabulary
pertaining to holidays. In science, we started a unit
on “changes in matter” (solid, liquid, gas) and made
borax crystal snowflakes to demonstrate these
changes.
This Week: We will continue learning about
different winter holidays and traditions. This week,
we will focus on; Las Posadas, Kwanzaa, Christmas,
and New Year’s. We will also do a condensed unit
on Hot Chocolate (we may also review this unit
once we return from Winter Break). We will read a
variety of fiction and nonfiction books about winter
holidays as well as write informational texts about
each. We will continue learning about changes in
matter (solid, liquid, gas) and integrate this into our
unit on hot chocolate. We will complete our Unique
unit and learn how to “stay calm when the schedule
changes” in TeachTown.

Cooking in the Classroom

This week, we will be making hot chocolate! We will be using Swiss Miss with marshmallows. We also
have gluten free and keto friendly hot chocolate. If your student has dietary restrictions, specific to
these ingredients, please coordinate with Ms. Simpson before Friday. We are happy to supply your
student with an alternative or simplify the recipe to only include what your student can eat.

La semana pasada: ¡Comenzamos una nueva unidad en
LUCES DE VACACIONES Y VACACIONES DE INVIERNO!
Después de observar una variedad de formas en las que
se utilizan las luces para iluminar las frías noches de
invierno, nos enfocamos en dos festividades principales;
Hanukkah y Santa Lucía. Los estudiantes hicieron un gran
trabajo usando estrategias calmantes después de
identificar “cuándo tomar un descanso” durante
TeachTown y durante el día. En nuestro plan de estudios
Unique, aprendimos sobre diferentes tradiciones y
repasamos el vocabulario relacionado con las vacaciones.
En ciencia, comenzamos una unidad sobre “cambios en la
materia” (sólido, líquido, gas) e hicimos copos de nieve de
cristal de bórax para demostrar estos cambios.

también escribiremos textos informativos sobre cada uno.
Continuaremos aprendiendo sobre los cambios en la
materia (sólida, líquida, gaseosa) e integraremos esto en
nuestra unidad de chocolate caliente. Completamos
nuestra unidad Unique y aprenderemos a “mantener la
calma cuando cambie el horario” en TeachTown.

Cocinar en el Aula
¡Esta semana haremos chocolate caliente! Usaremos Swiss Miss con malvaviscos. También tenemos
chocolate caliente sin gluten y cetogénico. Si su estudiante tiene restricciones dietéticas, específicas para
estos ingredientes, coordinate con la Sra. Simpson antes del viernes. Nos complace brindar a su
estudiante una alternativa o simplificar la receta para incluir sólo lo que su estudiante puede comer.
