Businesses have been fast trying to fit to new times and for them going green

is not a choice, rather an instant that could have both economic and environmental
benefits. For a company to fully go green, it needs much more than simply imposing
recycled paper and energy – efficient light bulbs. In some instance, many companies
discovered that by making a difference to their supply chains, they can also filter a
much greener concept.
The benefit of a green supply chain is that it can ensure socially responsible
company practices. These practices are not only beneficial to the environment and
the people who live on it, but they also promote sustainable growth. Practicing a
green supply chain can also lowering waste that can minimize a company’s business
expenses and at the same time it is also improving the company’s brand image.
Green SCM also benefits including reduced pollution and production costs, as well
as a competitive advantage in terms of increased customer satisfaction, a positive
image reputation, and a better possibility to sell products to environmentally friendly
countries. There are top 10 companies that is practicing GREEN SCM, and one of
them is Nike, an American sportswear brand that has acquired big steps to ‘green’ its
supply chain. According to Supplychaindigital, 2013 the company’s websites
declares: “Each outcome and consort, every conclusion, each access, each phase
from an idea to retrieving adds to a close endless ecosystem of cause and effect. To
give as much clarity into this ecosystem as possible, we’ve filtered it down to 7
fundamental stages: Plan, Design, Make, Move, Sell, Use, Reuse.” In contrast,
Green SCM helps us first and fore mostly, improving the environment in terms of
waste recycling, pollution and the trees around us as well. Secondly, it would
improve the supply of materials being used as well. Sometimes a product cannot be
produced to the scarcity of a certain material. Lastly, attracting more customers. By
being aware and doing something to sustain our environment, we would be able to
attract new clients and new connections.
How can they implement a Green SCM? First is to focus on why this matters.
The most significant concept behind the green supply chain is to execute a supply
chain that is sustainable not just for the present times but most importantly for the
future generations, especially for an environmental perspective. Companies can
practice a GREEN SCM by increasing ways on how to maintain a sustainable
practice to protect the environment such as eco – labelling, reducing waste,
recycling, and reusing materials to help in reducing waste. The Green SCM aims to
help to reduce environments pollution and minimize air, water, and waste pollution
by promoting sustainable practices in business operations. They could also discuss
by their stockholders, employees to introduce a new campaign for the green supply
chain. Through many people can be aware that some of the companies are concern
in the environmental and the well living of the people. Companies could also look for
suppliers who use cleaner and greener materials, such as the packaging of the
products and using biodegradable materials for the products itself as well. Another
practice for this is finding a more nearby supplier so that the transportation and
delivery would be shorter and would reduce carbon emissions. Furthermore, by
using high-quality packaging with a well-organized loading pattern, you may reduce
the amount of materials used and necessary handling while also maximizing space
utilization in the warehouse and the transportation
In contrast, they say humans can make a climate change, if it comes to
business firms you’d want it to do great in the long – run. Firms that practices a
sustainable and green supply chain are preparing for certain such a long – run. Now
let say you don’t believe in climate change. In firms, why should you have care about
having a sustainable supply chain? Simply because many of your customers do care
even if you refuse to accept climate change or science, the fact is that sustainability
is a very known marketing techniques for companies. Some ways may also help us
to save money, and makes it too significant to ignore. Supply chain companies of all
aspects should have a look to this, as those who believes climate change is
happening should look for a plan for the future and those who don’t should pursue to
keep money and fascinate new clients.
