2. Analyze each problem carefully. Calculate and present your solutions neatly and clearly. Use
long size bond paper. Draw the free body diagram as much as possible to support your
solution. For items with calculations, put your answers in the box. Make assumptions when
necessary.
3. The exam is only good for 3 hours from 9:00 am to 12:00 nn today, October 30, 2021.
However, to compensate for any problems (e.g., power interruption, poor internet
connection, etc.) that might occur during this period, there will be an allowance of 6 hours
for the submission before the deadline.
4. Whichever is smaller, a deduction of 20% of the total score or 10 points per hour late will be
penalized for late submission. No submission will be accepted beyond the exam date.
5. A maximum of 20% deduction of the total score will also be penalized for not following the
instruction and proper formatting including blur image, too many erasures, missing data
below (ID No, Name, etc.) and illegible penmanship.
7. Only word file is permitted. If the size of the document is beyond 5 MB (currently reduced
by the system), three submissions will be accepted.
8. Upload your file(s) to MOLE 3.0. Submission through email will not be accepted.

Problem 2 (20 pts.): Refer to the figure about the possible load patterns and corresponding
reactions, shears, and moments. Given: L = 4.0 m; S1 = 1.5; S3 = 2.5 m; S2 = 3.0 m; Dead load
(including concrete) = 4.0 kPa; Live load = 5.0 kPa. For maximum stresses, apply the following:
i) Pattern loading for live load, and ii) ultimate load combination, w u=1.2 w DL +1.6 w ¿.
SECOND EXAM
Problem 3 (35 pts.): A trapezoidal footing is to be designed to carry loads P 1 and P2 from
Column 1 and Column 2, respectively. Each column has a size of 450 mm x 450 mm and has a
center-to-center spacing of 5.00 m. The larger base coincides with the face of the column having
larger load and the shorter base coincides with the face of column having smaller load. Column 1
carries a dead load of 1, 000 kN and live load of [ Birth month ] ×80 kN while Column 2 carries a
dead load of 800 kN and a live load of [ Birthday ] × 5 0 kN . f’c = 30 MPa and fy = 375 MPa.
Allowable bearing capacity of soil is 210 kPa. Minimum depth of footing is 1.2 m. Determine
the following:
a. Dimension of the bases (5 pts.)
b. Shear diagram (10 pts.)
c. Moment diagram (10 pts.)
d. Total depth of footing in the column carrying larger load governed by one–way shear (5 pts.)
e. Total depth of footing in the column carrying larger load governed by two–way shear (5 pts.)
Problem 4 (45 pts.): The following slab of a building is shown below. Floor finish = 0.4*(birth
month) kPa, Live load = 0.3*(birthday) kPa, f ' c = 25 MPa, f y = 280 MPa, y c = 24 kN/m3. The
slab is supported by 250 mm x 350 mm reinforced concrete beam. Use 12 mm∅ as main
reinforcement. (Review the concepts properly!)
SECOND EXAM
a. Determine the minimum thickness of each slab panel. Round up you answers to the nearest
value multiple of 10. (5 pts.)
b. By choosing the maximum slab thickness in Part (a), in each slab panel, determine the
moments in the middle strips in both directions by considering the various locations: at the
midspan, continuous, and discontinuous edges. Use the Table below before presenting your
calculations. After presenting your calculation, indicate the calculated moments in the figure
shown above. (20 pts.)
c. Design panel C for flexure (20 pts.)
