Introduction

Hi! Good day everyone My name is Regine E. Julian a first year student in Opol
Community College with the course, Bachelor of Science in Business
Administration major in Financial Management.

As a student I know that there are a lot of things that I need to know and learn.
I’ve always wanted a teacher that can really make me understand the lessons so
that he/she has a mastery of his/her subject well. And I’m very thankful that Dr.
Annie Jacalan able to made her students understand her lessons and activities
very well, even if we struggle sometimes because there is some questions for us
that we don’t understand but when we take a class after her discussions she will
teach and guide us on how to do this activities, what are the things that it bothers
us and she will clarify it so that all of us can answer the questions. And also the
LAP that she gives to us is understandable and detailed that all of our lessons
and activities are there. When she’s taking her class she always makes a slide or
presentation and explains it to us clearly and gives a real life situation, so that we
can understand it very well. I really like this subject because it helps me and my
classmates to have a consciousness and makes us understand about ourselves.

Inside of this paper are my learning in Understanding the Self for the entire
semester. This includes my self reflection and understanding in Philosophy,
Sociology, Psychology, Physical Self, Sexual Self, The Material/Economical Self,
Spiritual Self, Political Self, and Digital Self.
WHO AM I IN PHILOSOPHICAL PERSPECTIVE.
Who am I in philosophical perspective? According to Maurice Merleau-Ponty
believe the physical body to be an important part of what makes up the
subjective self, which means that all of my knowledge, behaviors, values, beliefs,
and actions are based on my own experiences in life and also in my
environment. And also I see myself as a human being who is capable of doing
things both right and wrong ways, I am accepting my own flaws . I don’t want to
pretend, I don’t want someone who will control me, I don’t want to be someone
else so that people will like me, I like no scratch that I love myself.

WHO AM I IN SOCIOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE.

I am a person whose facing changes in life, from being a child and then a
teenager I have experience changes in me like my physical appearance,
behavior, emotions, values, the way I think and my actions. Before when I was a
child I remember that I am so clumsy, hard-headed, childish and discouraged
easily, but now I change a lot like I am experiencing puberty, I become
responsible, future-oriented, determined and hardworking. The changes in me
really helps me to become a good or a better person that I am today.

WHO AM I IN PSYCHOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE

In psychological perspective, I am a person who is aware or has a
consciousness about myself or my characteristics. I am a person that has my
own observations, perspectives, and values in different kinds of situations or in
the individual. I am aware of my own actions and behaviors towards my family,
friends, and even in society. We have different kinds of interpretations about the
behaviors, characteristics, values, and beliefs towards each other or individuals.
By learning about psychological constructs, such as dimensions of personality,
we can better understand ourselves, our motives, and our patterns of behavior.

WHO AM I IN PHYSICAL SELF

In physical self, I consider myself as a beautiful person because in a way that I
learn how to accept myself for what I am, I accept my own flaws and mistakes in
myself. You can consider yourself as a beautiful person not just physically but
within ourselves such as our good characteristics, qualities, personality, and
attitude is the  most important factor for being beautiful. In physical self you must
learn how to value, respect, and love yourself. You need to develop your self-
esteem if you have low self-esteem. I am confident, and satisfied with myself, I
learn how to appreciate, value and love myself. I know my worth as a person and
I’m proud of myself. People can recognize you as a beautiful person if you have
a good personality and attitude towards them. Self-love is a must, respect
yourself is a must and accepting yourself for what you are.

WHO AM I IN SEXUAL SELF

In sexual self, I am a person who is romantically attracted to opposite sex or
gender that is called heterosexuality. In my sexual self, I am a person that
experiences some physical, emotional and mentally changes that is called
puberty, when puberty hits us we can feel and notice some changes. And I am a
person who is aware of my sexual feelings and actions. And also we need to
learn, what is our sexual self so that we can understand  ourselves sexually,
answer our curiosity about the changes that are happening to us, to validate our
sexual identity, to avoid pregnancy or trouble especially us teenagers, we should
be aware of our sexual self. And also self-awareness is important so that we can
have a better understanding about ourselves.

WHO AM I IN MATERIAL/ECONOMICAL SELF

In material/economical self, I am a person whose aware of all items that I
purchase and bought through online shopping and also the things or products
that I buy are useful and we can use it from our daily necessities. For
example  like laptop and wifi I used it everyday for my online classes or doing my
activities and assignments and also my cousins and brothers are using wifi for
their modules. And in the categories that I’ve listed the most products that we
bought are for home which means its letter H, the items that my mom and I
bought are laptop, kitchen ware, bedding, washing powder, boiler , electric fan,
and pocket wifi. So this items that we purchase are very useful for me and to my
family. If I want to buy something, I must think first if it is important or it is useful
for us. Sometimes I buy products that I can use for myself like for example are
skin care and clothes, especially I am a woman and I want to take care my skin
and face I really need this fro me to glow up. And also if I buy something I tend to
ask my mom’s impression or advice  first before I purchase that product.

WHO AM I IN SPIRITUAL SELF
In spiritual self my experience in life that I felt satisfaction after I discriminate
what is right over a wrong action is when I was grade 8 my aunt gave me money
to pay for my cousins school fees because he is sick and can’t go to school. And
when I was about to pay it the teacher was not there. She was absent and after
that I actually spent all of my aunts money just to buy food and stuff. And my
mom and aunt found out that I didn’t pay the school fees and she was very angry
and disappointed because of that and I actually feel really guilty because my
mom paid for the money that I spent and I was saying sorry to them and telling
them that I won’t do it again.

WHO AM I IN POLITICAL SELF

In political self I am a person who has a right to choose whom I wanted to vote
for the sake of our country's development. I am a person who influences my
behavior, attitude and other aspects based on my family, friends and in our
society. And one thing that I'm really proud of is being resilient because of them I
learned how to be resilient standing with my own feet, fighting of what I think is
right and never giving up on the things that I want to accomplish. For example my
studies even if I struggle a lot because of this pandemic that it made our classes
through online but still this is not a hindrance to stop my studies so I've worked
really hard just to have good grades that I want that my parents be proud of me.
As a Filipino citizen it is good to have a resilient aspect because it gives people
the strength needed to process and overcome hardships and challenges that we
faced. As a student also resilience helps me a lot to approach new situations,
people or experiences with confidence and have a positive mindset, which
makes me more likely to succeed in every challenge that I've faced.

WHO AM I IN DIGITAL SELF

In digital self I am a person that gets addicted to using social media such as
facebook, youtube and tiktok. Most of the time I spend it online by browsing my
social media accounts and because of this  I tend to forget the time I spend
online, sometimes I feel lazy to do some household chores, I even forget to eat
or drink water in the right time and also when my cellphone is out of battery and it
needed to charge then that’s the time that I can rest my eyes and hands from
scrolling in social medias. And also I’ve realized when I feel that my eyes are
aching and my head is throbbing I spend less time using social media and also
we need to spend more time with our family. And also I choose self-promotion in
the impression management because I like posting and use tiktok to let other
people see how I dance and I want them to compliment my looks and also the
way I dance.
ANALYSIS/SYNTHESIS

In this subject, after I answer all of the who am I questions and I analyze it and
find out that this subject really helps me to be aware, have a different perceptions
and understand myself more. Like my behaviors, attitude and practices that I
would do are influenced by the environment or in my surroundings, my family,
and also my friends. I know now my strengths and weaknesses, the things or
personality that needs to be improved or to change. Having high self-esteem
really matters because it helps you develop coping skills, handle adversity, and
put the negative into perspective. The things or ways of coping up with my stress
and how to cheer myself up. Having a better understanding or freedom with it
comes in politics like the right to vote and choose. Knowing and understanding
the beliefs and practices of different religions. These are the things that I’ve
learned in this subject.

Understanding the Self is intended to assist students in comprehending the

nature of identity, as well as the influences and shaping factors that influence and
form personal identity. We can better comprehend ourselves when we are more
self-aware. We may then identify the improvements we wish to make and
recognize our strengths so that we can capitalize on them. Self-awareness is
frequently the first step toward setting goals. This includes confessing when you
don't know the answer and taking responsibility for your errors. Nothing outside
of yourself can tell you who you are or how you should live your life. When you
get to know yourself, you'll discover how simple life is and how much power you
have over your own fate. It will always be more important for you to know who
you are than for others to know who you are.
