object.
The area of a figure
is the number of
unit squares that
cover the surface of
a closed figure.

Formula of a Square:
Area of a Square with side (s):

 Example: The length of a side of a square is 12
inches. Find its area.

 Try: The length of a side of a square is 7 meters.
Find its area.

Solution:

𝐴 = 49 𝑚2

Formula of a Rectangle:
Area of a Rectangle with length (l) and

Solution:

Answer: A = 12.9 𝑘𝑚2
 Lisa is buying a cover for her table. If the
table is 5 feet on all sides, what is the area of the
cover?
Solution:

 Find the cost of tiling a rectangular plot of land 300 m long
and 150 m wide at the rate of Php6 per hundred square m.

Solution:

𝐴 = 300 150
𝐴 = 45 000 𝑚2
45 000 ÷ 100 = 450
450 × 6 = 𝑃ℎ𝑝 2 700
Answer: 𝑃ℎ𝑝 2 700
