Measuring Perimeter and

Circumference
A circle is a set of all
points in a plane that
are at the same
distance from a given
point in a plane called
center
The
circumference of
a circle is the
distance around
a circle.
Radius is one-half
the diameter.

Diameter is twice
the radius.
FORMULA FOR CIRCUMFERENCE
• 𝐶 = 𝜋𝑑 if diameter is given
• 𝐶 = 2𝜋𝑟 if radius is given

NOTE: 𝜋 ≈ 3.14
Example: Find the circumference 50 ft
of the circle.

Solution:
𝐶 = 𝜋𝑑
𝐶 = 3.14 50𝑓𝑡
𝐶 ≈ 157 𝑓𝑡
Answer: C ≈ 157 𝑓𝑡
Example: Find the circumference 12 cm
of the circle.

Solution:
𝐶 = 2𝜋𝑟
𝐶 = 2 3.14 12 𝑐𝑚
𝐶 ≈ 75.36 𝑐𝑚
Answer: C ≈ 75.36 𝑐𝑚
Example: Find the circumference of
the circle with radius 4.5 m.
Solution:
𝐶 = 2𝜋𝑟
𝐶 = 2 3.14 4.5 𝑚
𝐶 ≈ 28.26 𝑚
Answer: C ≈ 28.26 𝑚
Example: Find the circumference of
the circle with diameter 9 m.
Solution:
𝐶 = 𝜋𝑑
𝐶 = 3.14 9 𝑚
𝐶 ≈ 28.26 𝑚
Answer: C ≈ 28.26 𝑚
Example: Find the circumference of
the circle with diameter 15 in.
Solution:
𝐶 = 𝜋𝑑
𝐶 = 3.14 15 𝑖𝑛
𝐶 ≈ 47.1 𝑖𝑛
Answer: C ≈ 47.1 𝑖𝑛
TRY: Find the circumference of the
circle with radius 7 m.
Solution:
𝐶 = 2𝜋𝑟
𝐶 = 2 3.14 7 𝑚
𝐶 ≈ 43.96 𝑚
Answer: C ≈ 43.96 𝑚
Example: Find the circumference of
the circle with diameter 10 in.
Solution:
𝐶 = 𝜋𝑑
𝐶 = 3.14 10 𝑖𝑛
𝐶 ≈ 31.4 𝑖𝑛
Answer: C ≈ 31.4 𝑖𝑛
The radius of a circular rug is 4 ft. What is the
circumference?
Solution:
𝐶 = 2𝜋𝑟
𝐶 = (2) 3.14 4 𝑓𝑡
𝐶 ≈ 25.12 𝑓𝑡

Answer: C ≈ 25.12 𝑓𝑡
The diameter of your bicycle wheel is 25 in. How
far will you move in one turn of your wheel?
Solution:
𝐶 = 𝜋𝑑
𝐶 = 3.14 25 𝑖𝑛
𝐶 ≈ 78.5 𝑖𝑛

Answer: C ≈ 78.5 𝑖𝑛
