After reading and watching the materials, learners must perform the following activities):
1. Can you think of other factors that make the computer and IT environment different to a
more traditional non computing medium? As new technologies are introduced new
factors are arising every day. Think about relatively new technologies such as cellular
communication or satellite tracking devices? Have they cause new ethical questions? For
each technology you can think of, try to work out what it is about the technology that
cause those ethical questions.
2. What is the implication of keeping large databases by government agencies, ethical or
otherwise?
3. Does introduction of these database affect Free Speech? If so, how?
4. Consider the rights of the individual. Should they be given rights of access to their own
data or the ability to change incorrect data? Also consider the impact of incorrect data
even if they are changed but not propagated in a timely fashion.
2. Large databases can be protected by the government agencies. Not only the database,
but also the data owner. Because, large databases can be compromised by hackers. For
example is ransome, as we all know ransomware hacker will ask money to the data owner
so he/she would not leak of the owner data. The main implication of government
agencies of large databases is the protection and ensuring to not breaching any individual
data.
3. In my own opinion the question is irrelevant and why is it related to the free speech,
Government databases mostly record and keep track of personal information, in no way
or form can these databases affect an individual’s right to express their opinion.
4. Under R.A. 10173 Data of Privacy Act of 2012, your personal data is treated almost
literally in the same way as your own personal property. As a data subject, we have the
right to be informed that your personal data will be, are being or were, collected and
processed. Consider the impact of incorrect data even if they are changed but not
propagated in a timely fashion. Under the law, you have the right to suspend, withdraw or
order the blocking, removal or destruction of your personal data. And if you feel that
your personal data has been misused, maliciously disclosed, or improperly disposed, or if
any of the rights discussed here have been violated, you have the right to file a complaint.
