BUSINESS LETTER
You are the first-year student at the International University College in Penang. One day,
you and your friends had lunch at one of the cafeterias at your college. While you were
eating your lunch, you happened to notice some flies in your chicken dish. You took the
pictures of the dish as the evidence for your complaint. Write a letter of complaint to the
university administration.
Describe about the unfortunate incident and explain about the evidence you have.
Express your dissatisfaction towards the incident.
What could be done to make sure the incident would not reoccur?
I am writing today regarding one of the cafeterias at the college, where I experienced an
event which disgusted me so much that I will never return to eat at the cafeterias again.
Going out to eat is supposed to be one of life's pleasures, something to be enjoyed, where
the customer puts their trust in the restaurant's reputation as well as food hygiene in the
kitchen.
During my recent visit to the college cafeterias, I ordered a Chicken Fried Rice dish. Only
moments after eating my lunch, I noticed that it have a weird taste and the smell is a little
bit like a rotten egg. Out of suspicion, I flipped the chicken to the other side to check it’s
condition. I was shocked when I found out that there are some dead flies sticking on the
food and straight away vomits out whatever that already gets into my mouth. I immediately
felt sick and called over the staff.
They apologised and removed my dish and asked me if I wanted something else! I
declined to order something else, as my appetite was completely gone, I asked for some
tea. My partner who was with me and had ordered the same thing, no longer wanted to
eat their meal either, as knowing that the dishes were prepared together in the same
kitchen was enough to put us both off the food with the urge to puke even just by the
thought of it.
When the bill arrived, I was surprised there was a bill at all! With such an incident, the
cafeterias should have made the entire meal and tea complimentary! My tea was not even
complimentary! Complete lack of customer service and the entire experience has
disappointed me that I will never go there again.
I highly suggest that the Department of Health & Hygiene investigate their health and
safety licence, as well as the cleanliness of their food serving areas, kitchens and general
hygiene of the staff preparing and serving the food to customers.
I also included a picture of the food that I took the other day as an evidence. Please look
into the matter, the cafeterias should be closed down for severe lack of hygiene! Thank
you for your time. I look forward in receiving a feedback from you. I hope that the service
will be improved and such cases won’t happen again in the future.
Sincerely,
Izz Hafiz .
