RESOLUTION

FORUM: GENERAL ASSEMBLY, 3rd Committee

QUESTION OF: Dismantling the blockade on the Gaza strip
SUBMITTED BY: East Timor
The General Assembly,

Alarmed by the severity of the blockade on the suffering Gaza Strip,

Noting with deep concern the minimal assistance Israel has given to the refugees in
Gaza,

Recalling resolution 1860, adopted in 2009 by the Security Council, which called for
the distribution of humanitarian aid to the poverty-stricken masses of the Gaza
strip,

Expressing its appreciation for NGOs such as Amnesty International, which are
working hard to ameliorate the situation,

Reaffirming the purposes of resolution 1515, adopted in November 2003, which

expressed support for the manifestation of the Two-State solution for Israel and
Palestine,

Approving the aims of the UN Post-Conflict Peacebuilding Conferences in 2005 and

2006, during which they adopted resolutions such as RES/1645 (2005), which
urged a global effort towards helping post-conflict countries in reconstruction and
reconciliation,

Emphasizing the main points of the draft resolution A/C.4/65/L.15, reviewed on 5

November 2010 by the Special Political and Decolonization Committee, which
acknowledges Israeli practices affecting and violating human rights in Palestinian
territories,

1. Fully appreciates the acknowledgement by the UN of the blockade of the

Gaza Strip as an issue that must be quickly resolved;

2. Strongly urges other NGOs to further assist the Palestinians in their time of
need;

3. Expresses its hope that Israel realizes the sordid state of the Gaza Strip and
calls off the blockade;

4. Invites other member UN countries to support this cause and urge Israel to
open its heart to the poor Palestinians;
5. Recommends that Israel revisit their promising proposals at the Camp David
Accords in 2000, in which Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak proposed that:
a. Palestine immediately receive 100% of the Gaza Strip and 73% of the
West Bank, and later be granted up to 94% of the West Bank,
b. Palestinians be granted custodianship on the Temple Mount in
Jerusalem
c. Israel provide a $30 billion dollar fund for the resettlement and
absorption of Palestinian refugees;

6. Further recommends that Israel commit to their agreement during the

Annapolis Conference in 2007, at which they agreed to a two-state solution;
specifically the donation of parts of East Jerusalem to a Palestinian state;

7. Requests that the Palestinians not resort to violence as a desperate means for
attention to their cause;

8. Congratulates those Palestinians who have chosen non-violent ways to raise

awareness for the condition of their people;

9. Trusts that once the Gaza blockade is stopped, and a two-state solution
found, peace in the Middle East will finally be at hand.
