This document discusses using crystals and other objects as totems to channel sacred energies or "Rays". It provides guidance on choosing a totem based on its compatibility with a particular Ray's attributes. The text advises clearing or cleansing a totem before charging it with a specific Ray's energy through visualization. It also stresses the importance of maintaining balance and not overusing a totem charged with a direct Ray energy.

I have a crystal cluster with many points that I use as a collector of
direct Ray energies. Geodes are also very good forthis as long as they have actual crystal points emerging from inside. One geode I have is affectionately known as "the little people's crystal cave." Because I have used It so many times when I was doing the Crystal Cave exercise, I can simply hold it meditatively for a few moments, and achieve a good sense of healing balance. It is not always necessary to specifically charge totems that you use in your work on the shamanic path. Sometimes all that is needed is to let them share in the journey. If you do wish to charge a totem object with a specific Ray energy-as my friend did with his crystals-here is a suggestion: Spend time with the totem to determine if the Ray energy you wish to charge it with will harmonize with its own energy. For example: a carnelian simply will not harmonize with a Violet Ray; a coyote will not fare well with a Blue devotional Ray (though he may trick you into thinking he will); and mugwort cannot be used very effectively with a Red Ray. After you have considered the compatibility of a totem to a specific Ray energy and feel that it will harmonize well, take time to clean or clear the totem. Do this with imagery, sage smoke, or clear water. For example, you have decided that the otter will be most helpful in attuning to the Green Ray energies. Take time in your images or inner visions to let the otter swim in crystal-clear water, dry in the sun, and roll in the rich green grass. In this way, you have already begun charging the totem with the Ray energy. After you have cleansed the totem in preparation to charge it with a specific Ray energy, take time to be very certain of the attributes you wish to tap into. Be sure to balance these correctly. For example, that little silver charm in the shape of an eagle may be an excellent choice for the Indigo Ray of devotion and idealism. However, if you aren't clear with yourself when you charge the totem, you may end up with a very egotistical eagle! Be clear about your own needs for specific Ray energies, and be aware of imbalances when they emerge. Every Ray has positive and negative aspects. Keeping yourself in balance is the most effective connection to the positive aspects of Ray energies. Finally, allow totems that have been charged with specific Ray energies to rest once in a while. Too much use of a direct energy can also block It and cause negative attributes to emerge.
