Duration: 90 mins Total Marks: 20
Instructions:
● Section 1- All compulsory questions, 1 mark each.
● Section 2- Short Answers, answer any four out of six questions given, 2
marks each.
● Section 3- Case Study Analysis, answer any one out of two given, 7
marks.
● Do not overwrite on the paper.
● Use clear handwriting.
● All the best!

Section 1
1. This section consists of Multiple Choices questions
2. Answer all the questions ( 5 x 1 = 5 Marks)

1. ……….. is an unbiased number of observations taken from a population?

2. ……… statistics summarized about the sample and measures.

3. You are conducting a political survey in a neighbourhood and decide that

after randomly selecting a start point, you will sample every 15th house on
the street. What type of sampling will you be using for this survey?

(a) Systematic sampling

(b) Convenience sampling
(c) Judgmental Sampling
(d) Stratified Sampling

4. Statistical error which arises when sample does not represent population
is called: -
(a) Central Tendency of data
(b) Random error
(c) Sampling error
(d) Standard deviation

5. A number which occurs maximum times in a data set is called….?

Part B (Answer any four question) (4 x 2 = 8 Marks)
1.You are given the following data of the number of lecturers, readers and
professors in a university
Length of Lecturers Readers Professors Total
service
Less than 5 2000 250 50 2300
years
5 – 10 years 3000 220 80 3300
10 – 15 years 1500 170 30 1700
15 years and 880 80 40 1000
more
Total 7380 720 200 8300

Work out how many lecturers, readers and professors would be selected from
each category if we follow proportional stratified sampling method and take 10%
of the universe equivalent to the sample size
2. The mean of 100 observations is found to be 40. If at the time of computation,
two items are wrongly taken as 30 and 27 instead of 3 and 72, find the correct
mean.
3. Find the missing frequency from the data given below if mean = 25.
Class 10-15 15-20 20 - 25 25 - 30 30 – 35 35- 40
Interval
Frequenc 2 7 - 9 11 1
y

4. A researcher is willing to analyze preferred health drinks by football players.

Researchers chose retired players as a sample. What kind of sampling error did
the researcher make?
5. (a) The variability which is defined as the difference between third and first
quartile is considered as …..
(b) Calculate the interquartile range of the following data
17, 18, 18, 19, 20, 21, 21, 23, 25

6. (a) In a frequency distribution the last cumulative frequency is 300, Median

shall lie in:
(i) 140th item
(ii) 130th item
(iii) 160th item
(iv) 150th item

(b) There are basically two types of statistics – descriptive and inferential.
Which of the following sentences are true about descriptive statistics?
(i) Descriptive statistics enable you to make decisions about your data,
for example, is one group mean significantly different from the
population mean?
(ii) Descriptive statistics describe the data.
(iii) Descriptive statistics enable you to draw inferences about your
data, for example does one variable predict another variable?
(iv) All of the above.

Part C (Answer any 1 questions) (1 x 7 = 7 Marks)

1. The circle-graph given here shows the spending of a country on various
sports during a particular year. Study the graph carefully and answer the
questions given below it. Explain with full solution

(a) What percent of total spending is spent on Tennis?

(b) How much percent more is spent on Hockey than that on Golf?
(c) If the total amount spent on sports during the year is Rs. 1,80,00,000, the
amount spent on Basketball exceeds on Tennis by what amount?
(d) How much percent less is spent on Football than that on Cricket?

2. Calculate and interpret the central tendency and inter quartile range of the
below data.
Values Above 0 Above 20 Above 40 Above 60 Above 80
Frequency 75 60 30 21 10
