#1
Determine the classification of the soil D shown in the curve below according to USCS. From
Atterberg limit test : LL = 34 dan PL = 27.

SOAL # 2

An embankment as high as 5 m that is rested over the soil stratas is shown below. The water
level is the same level as the surface. w = 10 kN/m3.
Find:
1) Vertical total stress, pore pressure, and vertical effective stress at the middle of clay
layer soon after the embankment is applied.
2) Vertical total stress, pore pressure, and vertical effective stress at the middle of clay
layer long time after the embankment is applied

Below the soil profile is shown. The phreatic level at the site is – 2m, the piezometric level in
the Pleistocene SAND is + 2 m. Based on the permeability, the change in head between the
phreatic level and piezometric level occurs between the levels G.L – 7 m and – 10 m in the
CLAY layer. w = 10 kN/m3.

Find:
1) Vertical total stress, pore water pressure and vertical effective stress each soil strata.
2) Draw the diagram of vertical total stress, pore water pressure and vertical effective
stress each soil strata.

Below the soil profile is shown. There is an excavation with the depth of H m from the
surface. The phreatic level at the site is – 1m, the piezometric level in the Pleistocene SAND
is 1 m. w = 10 kN/m3.
Find:
1) Total stress, pore pressure and effective stress at point P.
2) The critical depth of excavation (H) for HEAVING not occur.
