Task-1.
 Leaf:
 Look in the internet to find the scientific name of the plant from which you have collected your
leaf sample. Write down both its common name and scientific name correctly.

Common name: Butterfly pea, Aparajita

Scientific name: Clitoria ternatea

 Use the ruler/measuring tape to take measurements of the leaf and use the following equation to
calculate the surface area of that leaf.
𝜋
Area of an oval= × 𝐿𝑒𝑛𝑔𝑡ℎ × 𝑊𝑖𝑑𝑡ℎ
4
3.14
= 4
× 3𝑖𝑛𝑐ℎ × 2𝑖𝑛𝑐ℎ

= 4.71𝑖𝑛𝑐ℎ2

 Use leaf surface drawing technique to calculate the surface area of the leaf. (Attach the leaf with
the graph paper.)

Using the leaf surface drawing technique found the surface area of the leaf is 5𝑖𝑛𝑐ℎ2 .

 Finally make a herbarium for the plant (from which the leaf was collected) mentioning the
environment of the plant/tree.

Aparajita grows in any type of soil. I collected the Aparajita leaf from my rooftop. To plant the
Aparajita flower we just need a space where there are many spaces to spread in the vines or let the
delicate stems climb over the trellis or fence and my terrace had enough space to put the plant in a
flowerpot. In addition, in my rooftop there is a perfect lightning combination for the Aparajita
flower as it needs full sunlight, shade or semi-shade that can perfectly get from my rooftop.

Task-2.
 Animal:
 Find out the scientific name of the animal you have chosen to observe. Write down both its
common name and scientific name correctly.

Common name: Domestic pigeon

Scientific name: Columba livia domestica

 Write down its scientific classification with clear picture.

Domesticated Pigeon
Columba livia domestica
Scientific Classification
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata

Class: Aves
Order: Columbiformes

Family: Columbidae
Genus: C.livia
Species: C.l.domestica

 Find out how does this animal adapts itself with its environment and write them down in four
points.
How pigeons adapts itself with its environment are discussed below:
(1) Their body is boat-shaped and streamlined to provide the least resistance to airflow.
(2) The bones are pneumatic (hollow), which reduces the weight of the body and help them to fly.
(3) The forelegs are modified into wings and it is covered with feathers to provide insulation.
(4) The body is adapted to flight habits and their tail feathers act as a rudder.
