If you answered YES to any of these questions, talk with your doctor before you
start engaging in physical activity. Tell your doctor about the PAR-Q and which
questions you answered yes.
If you answered NO to all PAR-Q questions, you can take start participating in
physical activity.
Here’s how to compute for the THR (Target Heart Rate) at moderate and at
vigorous intensity of physical activity:
Moderate (40 - 55%): 220 – age = ________ Personal Maximum Heart Rate (PMHR)
Let me remind you to keep track of your fitness level by having a record of your
heart rate before and after a physical activity. Please remember that one of the most
efficient ways to assess fitness is through heart rate.
In this lesson, you will be given activities on how to perform appropriate first aid for
injuries and emergency sitauations in physical activity and sports setting. There are also
activities that will help you to display and enhance your skills in sports officiating. Hence, you
will understand the benefits of such activities to your fitness and well-being. As you go on
and overcome the challenges, you will learn that together, sports officiating activities will be
more fun and exciting, without knowing that you are improving your fitness as well as your
sense of community.

This lesson will determine your knowledge with regards to the common injuries that may
happen during a sports officiating activity. This will also help you master the different basic
first aids that will help alleviate the suffering of an injured person.
First aid is an immediate and temporary care given to a person who has been injured
or suddenly taken ill. It includes self-help and home care if medical assistance is not available
or delayed.
Objectives of first aid:
● To alleviate suffering
● To prevent added/further injury or danger
● To prolong life
b. Use Paracetamol for the first day of the injury to reduce pain without increasing bleeding.
c. Do not apply heat during the first two days as this will only increase swelling.
d. After 48 hours, start moving the limb gently but only enough not to cause pain.

FRACTURE is a break in the bone that can occur from either quick, one-time injury to
the bone (acute fracture) or from repeated stress to the bone over time (stress fracture).
Symptoms of a fracture are intense pain, deformity (the limb looks out of place), swelling,
bruising, or tenderness around the injury, numbness, tingling and problems moving a limb.
