Objective
The objective of this application is that piezoelectric tile
can harvest energy from footsteps and to optimize the
system for harvesting maximum energy.
History

French physicists Jacques and Pierre Curie discovered

piezoelectricity in 1880. The piezoelectric effect has been
exploited in many useful applications, including the production
and detection of sound, piezoelectric inkjet printing,
generation of high voltage electricity, as a clock generator in
electronic devices, in microbalances, to drive an ultrasonic
nozzle, and in ultrafine focusing of optical assemblies. It forms
the basis for scanning probe microscopes that resolve images
at the scale of atoms. It is used in the pickups of some
electronically amplified guitars and as triggers in most modern
electronic drums. The piezoelectric effect also finds everyday
uses, such as generating sparks to ignite gas cooking and
heating devices, torches, and cigarette lighters.

The first demonstration of the direct piezoelectric effect was in

1880 by the brothers Pierre Curie and Jacques Curie. They
combined their knowledge of pyroelectricity with their
understanding of the underlying crystal structures that gave
rise to pyroelectricity to predict crystal behavior, and
demonstrated the effect using crystals of tourmaline, quartz,
topaz, cane sugar, and Rochelle salt (sodium potassium
tartrate tetrahydrate). Quartz and Rochelle salt exhibited the
most piezoelectricity.

Interior Design is a multi-faceted career in which innovative
and specialized solutions are connected inside a structure to
accomplish a built good environment. These solutions are
practical, upgrade the personal satisfaction and culture of the
inhabitants, and are stylishly appealing . This research
intends to study the efficiency of using piezoelectric tiles
instead of ceramic or granite tiles in interior spaces.

Piezoelectric materials are crystals that produce power when

compressed or vibrated . They fall inside a class of various
solid state materials that can create power with the use of
some boost, for example, heat, stress, or light . Piezoelectric
gadgets inserted in roadways may recover energy as vibration
and pressure under the vehicle tires.

Important components of piezoelectric tile

Piezoelectric sensor
A sensor that utilizes the piezoelectric effect, to measure changes in
acceleration, strain, pressure, and force by converting them into electrical charge
is called a piezoelectric sensor. This generated piezoelectricity is proportional to
the pressure applied to the solid piezoelectric crystal materials.
Battery
A Battery is an array of electrochemical cells for electricity storage, either
individually linked or individually linked and housed in a single unit. An electrical
battery is a combination of one or more electrochemical cells, used to convert
stored chemical energy into electrical energy. Electricity is used to be generated
and consumed at the same time, hence batteries are used as a storage device
for storing electricity.
Primary battery
Primary batteries can produce current immediately on assembly. Disposable
batteries are intended to be used once and discarded. These are mostly used in
portable devices such as in alarm and communication circuits where other
electric power is only intermittently available.
Secondary battery
Secondary batteries must be charged before use; they are usually assembled
with active materials in the discharged state. Rechargeable batteries or
secondary cells can be recharged by applying electrical current, which reverses
the chemical reactions that occur during its use. Devices to supply the
appropriate current are called chargers or rechargers.
Piezoelectric tiles
Piezoelectric floors are designed to capture the wasted energy and resources
and store or redistribute them where they are needed. Energy is generated when
a person steps on tiles that feature piezoelectric attributes. This kinetic energy is
converted into electricity.

Pavegen tiles in india

Pavegen tile capturing the world

With the return of live events globally, it is important to consider
the unsustainable environmental impacts that these may have.
Pavegen can be used as not only a way to make events more
sustainable, but also as an engagement tool to excite audience.

Why this will work in india

India has an energy problem. It currently relies heavily on coal and
consumer demand is expected to double by 2040, making its green
energy targets look out of reach. Part of the solution could come
from harvesting energy from footsteps, say Hari Anand and Binod
Kumar Singh from the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies
in Dehradun, India.
