PROBLEM STATEMENT
● As we have seen in the recent times growing concerts of the sources of energy, people
are looking at sustainable energy solutions to preserve the earth for future generations.

● Other than hydro power, vibration and photovoltaic energy holds the most potential to
meet our energy demands. Alone, vibration energy is capable of supplying large
amounts of power but its presence is highly unpredictable as it can be here one moment
and gone in another.

● with the sudden increment in power usage researchers around the world are working on
more and more sustainable source of energy

● And our this projects amplifies one of the top most solution for more sustainable energy
source and most importantly it’s reuseable.
PURPOSE
► The main purpose of this project in to provide a prototype of the solution that can
be used in the future for power generation.

► It’s primarily focuses on reusablity of power generation and ease of reusablity.

► This project has great potential to be used on a larger scale.

► Its USP is of course no pollution, efficient power generation and ease of usability.
PURPOSE contd...
► Peizo electricity is a least explored option in terms of power generation. It has been
suggested lately but the cost to it were high and demand for such solution was less
in earlier time

► But now as governments around the world are ready to spend money on future
methods of power generation. Peizo electricity has again picked up the traction.

► In the piezoelectric (PZ) effect, electricity can be generated when piezoelectric

materials are mechanically deformed. When a certain solid material for example
biological matter or crystal is pulled or pressed electric charge is generated across
it, this effect is called piezoelectric effect where the conversion of mechanical
stress into electrical charge takes place.

► Solar PV technology is widely used all over the world. This method uses
photovoltaic (PV) effect to generate electrical energy through the conversion of
solar light into direct current (DC) electricity
WORK DISTRIBUTION

• Research and Findings

• Working on the design and prototype
• Exploring Various Options that can be added to it
making in more reliable and usable and cost effective

Implementation
► This project demonstrates how to use the solar energy and the kinetic energy from
footsteps of people walking over piezo based footboard..

► The Solar Panel is used to harness the solar power. It converts the solar power into
voltage, which when more than the voltage in the battery is able to charge the
battery.

► We will be using the Arduino based projection to implement our project.

► Using piezoelectric material to harvest vibration energy from humans walking,

machinery vibrating, or cars moving on a roadway is an area of great interest,
because this vibration energy is otherwise untapped
What is Piezoelectricity?
● Piezoelectricity (also called the piezoelectric effect) is the appearance of an
electrical potential (a voltage, in other words) across the sides of a crystal
when you subject it to mechanical stress (by squeezing it).

● In practice, the crystal becomes a kind of tiny battery with a positive charge
on one face and a negative charge on the opposite face; current flows if we
connect the two faces together to make a circuit

● The piezoelectric effect was discovered in 1880 by two French physicists,

brothers Pierre and Paul-Jacques Curie, in crystals of quartz, tourmaline, and
Rochelle salt (potassium sodium tartrate). They took the name from the
Greek work piezein, which means "to press."
piezo sensor
METHODOLOGY USED
► These piezo sensors can be installed in roads and in foot or in the tiles even at home
and can be used to charge batteries to be used as power supply

► Footstep power generation system is to capture the typically wasted energy surrounding a
system and transforming it into electrical energy.

► we are generating electrical power as a non-conventional method by simply walking

or running as the input source. The piezoelectric sensor will then send the signal into
the Arduino Uno and transform it into electrical energy. Then, the voltage stored in
the battery can be used to charge the mobile phone and other applications. The
results shown that this footstep generation system is very important for utilization in
today’s world.

► With Piezo electricity .more than 93% of power conversion efficiency can be achieved

Future Scope and Enhancement
• To get maximum efficiency this kind of system should be installed in busy crowded places such as
railway stations, malls, bus stops and busy footpaths, speed breakers, highways.

• In
. future we can also improve this system by making it dual sun tracking solar panels or if the area
or geographical conditions allow we will also be able to add other power generation systems to
increase efficiency in order to increase the output.

• Research is ongoing into the practicality of piezoelectric energy harvesting in wearable

devices.Piezoelectric vibration energy harvesting is the preferred method for use with wearable
devices since it is the most capable of producing the power level needed for small-scale devices

• Airports, especially, have begun to implement these tiles in an attempt to lower their day-to-day
operation costs, increase efficiency, and set an overall good example for surrounding communities.

• Within dance clubs, many owners are powering their venue by installing piezoelectric tiles on the
dance floor itself.
