Victor Wooten

Victor Wooten is one of the world’s most important,

funky, and technically-groundbreaking bass players.

His unique approach to the bass caused shock waves

when he first emerged circa 1986, as he brought
an unmatched duality to the instrument, creating
polyrhythmic parts via tapping and slapping, all with a
phenomenal musicality and rock-solid groove.

“Isn’t She Lovely” (Melody)

When it comes to improvising, it’s really important to be able to play great melodies—
it’s the foundational element of playing a great solo: a solo is ultimately an improvised melody.

Let’s look at the classic melody to Stevie Wonder’s “Isn’t She Lovely”, followed by a portion of
Victor’s improvisation on the melody.
