e) Clamping of the sheets, ladders, handrailing etc shall be by high tensile


steel bolts hot dip galvanised with ABS coated heads. The bolts shall be
bedded in the mastic sealant. After tightening the threads of the bolt
shall protrude from the nuts by not less than one thread and not more
than the diameter of the bolt unless the protruding thread is to be used
for insulation fixing. Plastic caps shall be fitted to the nuts after
tightening.

f) Where tanks are open topped the periphery of the tank shall be
reinforced with glass coated steel or galvanised mild steel angles for
stiffening. Covered tanks shall be suitable for pedestrian access
otherwise suitable markings and access ways shall be provided to limit
entry.

1.3 PLASTIC TANKS

a) All GRP tanks shall be designed and manufactured in accordance with


BS 4994 or equivalent and all designs calculations and details of the
construction of the tank and fittings shall be submitted for approval by
the Purchaser. Category 1 shall be selected unless a lower category can
be fully justified. Where a resin has not been proven for use with the
particular medium, a liner shall be utilised with such a proven record.

b) The tank aspect ratio shall be in the ratio of 1.5 to 2.0 and provided with
a shallow sloping base with skirt and control outlet. All nozzles up to
100mm shall be gusseted and those over 100mm shall incorporate a
compensation plate thickness.

1.4 SLUDGE TANKS

a) For sludge holding tanks, two 80mm NB PN10 flanged outlets, at 1m


centres shall be fitted to the side wall of the tank. Each outlet shall be
fitted with sluice valves complete with operating chains and connected to
a Decanting Manifold. The valves shall be located in a position suitable
for chain operation. A Decanting Manifold of 100 NB shall be provided,
connected to all decanting valves, to enable supernatant liquor draw off
into an adjacent sump (sump provided by others). The manifold shall
terminate at a free discharge at ground level and be fully insulated.
Rodding points shall be provided at each decanting valve to facilitate
complete clearing of manifold blockages.

b) The tank roof shall incorporate a high level roof vent complete with
passive deodouriser.

1.5 HYDRAULIC TEST

A "Drop Test" shall be undertaken upon satisfactory completion of the


erection, in order to demonstrate that all items of plant have been erected
correctly and be reliable in operation under conditions at site. After cleansing
the tanks shall be filled with water at a rate approved by the Engineer, and
