MUCH, MANY,A LOT OF, LOTS OF, (A) LITTLE, (A) FEW

We use much with singular (uncountable) nouns and many with plurals
Ex: How much time have we got?
How many tickets do we need?

Much and many are most common in questions and negatives, and after ‘so’, ‘too’ and
‘very’
Ex:‘I love you so much,’ She eats too much,’ Thank you very much’

In the affirmative sentences we prefer a lot (of), lots of or plenty (of). All three of
these can be used with both uncountables and plurals

Neg: There aren’t many cars in the street

Pos:There isn’t too much noise in that room

Neg:There is a lot of noise in that room
Notice:
Int:Are there many shops in Bristol?
Not many, but there are a lot of cinemas
I have a lot of problems writing in English but not many in speaking

Much is also an adverb:

Examples: There isn’t much to say
I don’t have to do much
Don’t eat much if you want to be in shape

(A) LITTLE (A) FEW

(A)Little is used with singular (uncountable ) nouns and (a) few with plurals
LITTLE and FEW are rather negative, they mean not much/many
A LITTLE and A FEW are more positive, their meaning is more like some
Examples:

Cactuses need little water

Give roses a little water every day
His ideas are difficult to understand and few people can understand them
His ideas are very difficult, but a few people can understand them
