‘SOME - ANY- NO’
We usually prefer some to a few or a little
EX: There are some interesting books I’d like to read (1)
I’ve some money to spend (2)
(1)instead of :There are a few interesting books I’d like to read
(2)Instead of : I’ve a little money to spend
We use Some (something, somebody-someone, somewhere)
in positive statements with countables and uncountables
EX: There’s somebody asking for you
There are some new CDs in my bag
I need somewhere to relax
BUT whenever I’m making an offer or a request I put SOME also in the
interrogatives
EX: Would you like some tea?
Can you give me some help with my homework ,please?

We use ‘Any‘ In interrogatives and negatives sentences

(with countables and uncountables)

EX:
We don’t have anything to say
Is there anything interesting on T.V. tonight?
I don’t have any money with me tonight

BUT we can use any also in a positive statement having the

meaning of ‘every’

EX:
I like any kind of music
Any colour is o.k. for me
You can get anyone you want at my party

‘NO’ (nothing, nowhere, nobody, nowhere)

We can use No in positive sentences

EX:
I have no time to talk to you
I’ve no problem to talk about it
No doctor will be able to find a good treatment
I have nowhere to go
There’s nobody in the class
There’s nothing I can do, I’m sorry
COMPARE :

There isn’t any milk left in the fridge

There’s no milk left in the
There wasn’t anybody at the cinema
There was nobody at the cinema

‘ALL ‘
We use ALL most often with uncountable and plural nouns
EX:
I ate all the food in the fridge
I bought all the flowers of this garden
All of us wanted to go cycling
‘OTHER’- ‘ANOTHER’
OTHER (adjective)
EX: Tell the other people that the concert is starting
I don’t like this, I like the other one
OTHERS (pronoun)
Tell the others that the concert is starting
I don’t like this jumper, can I try on some others?
We use ANOTHER to mean one more
Can I have another cup of tea? It’s delicious!
We can use another + few i.e. I need another few minutes to finish
another + a number + plural noun- i.e. I need another 10 days to finish
