vice-president of D.E.Shaw & Co.(A wall street
firm).
July 5, 1994-incorporated the company
in Washington State with the name Cadabra, Inc.
later changed the name to Amazon.com.

In 1995, began service as an online book store.
First book sold on Amazon.com was Douglas
Hofstadter's Fluid Concepts and Creative Analogies:
Computer Models of the Fundamental Mechanisms of
Thought.
In the first two months of business, Amazon sold to all 50
states and over 45 countries.
Within two months, Amazon's sales were up to
$20,000/week.
In 1996, it was reincorporated in Delaware.
But, got sued twice in 1997-98.

Since June 19, 2000, Amazon's logotype has featured a

curved arrow leading from A to Z, representing- every
product from A to Z, with the arrow shaped like a smile
☺.
First profit in 2001 of $5 million.
30000 employees in 2011 but 180,000 employees by
2016.
In 2014, launched its first ever smartphone, the fir phone.
By the end of 2017, Amazon had over 566,000
employees worldwide.

Amazon is the world's Number one E-commerce platform and also a tech
giant based in Seattle, Washington.

Amazon India head office is located at Bangalore.

 In 2017, Amazon announced it was searching for a second

headquarters, one that would be co-equal to its Seattle home. 

By the deadline Amazon set a total of 238 cities and areas sent in
proposals. They were located across the United States and Canada.
Amazon whittled this down to 20 finalists in 2018.

Why does Amazon need a new headquarters?
The city(Seattle) has become too small for Amazon .

It occupied 19 percent of all prime office space in the city.

The company's need for space, and more importantly tech talent, had
outgrown the area. 

Attract new talent who are not willing to move to Seattle.

Find a more affordable city, so they don’t have to pay higher salaries (and
operational costs).

Amazon conducts 5-6 rounds to select freshers as SDE (SDE-1)

in their organization. The following rounds are conducted:

Online Coding Round
Multiple Technical Rounds
Hiring Manager Round
HR Round
 Written Round:
• Aptitude/ Logical Test
• Technical test.
C, C++, Operating System, Data Structure, inheritance.

Online Coding Round:

• It contains 3-4 coding questions, mainly from Arrays, strings, and
matrices.
• To clear this round, one should have a strong understanding of
these data structures.
 Technical Round 1:
• face-to-face algorithmic rounds
• 2-4 questions, all from data structures.
• The most commonly asked DSs are the matrix, binary tree, BST,
Linked list.
