Reflection #3: Module 2 Lesson 1

1. How similar or different are the motivation of learners you observed and interview on
your own motivation to learn?

We are all similar in a way that when I find myself interested in the topic or activities
given by the teacher, I feel motivated. And when my achievements are appreciated and
recognized by my parents, teachers and people around me, it makes me challenge to
continue my best in everything I do, so that people around me will be happy and proud.
As from the learners whom I observed and interview they are also establishing a goal that
they want people around them to feel proud. Our sense of belongingness and esteem are
integrated and level up because of the things produced and given by the people that has a
big impact on us.

2. What do you think are the reason behind these learners’ motivation? Why?

The reason behind these learners’ motivation is because of their personal interest and goals,
aside from that reason is because of the motivation that they receive from their parents,
friends and teachers. They are motivated because they find that they are appreciated and
belong to the class. Feeling of being heard and love by the people around them, and most
especially the support given by the parents and guardians pushes them to become motivated
intrinsically and extrinsically.

3. Do you think that these students’ motivations can somehow be shaped by the teacher or
the school?

Yes, the way learners respond to the tasks given and the way they behaved are somehow
shaped by the teacher. Teachers play an important role in supporting students' hard work
and determination by demonstrating that they are valued. Teachers has a big impact in
boosting learners’ self-determination in a certain interest, and the approach applied by
the teacher in every success or done tasks by the students is the reason why the students
are motivated and enjoyed in the class. They can influence the goals learners adopt
during learning, and help enhance learners’ perceptions in life that will make them
become a better and successful students.

4. How can learners motivate themselves based on Self-Determination theory?

Students are motivated because of their personal interest in the materials that drives them to
be a better student. Learners tend to the activities and task that connect them to their social
identities because doing so can support and enhance their sense of belonging and self-
esteem that help them integrate into social groups.

5. Based on the learners’ motivation, describe the four dimensions of motivation.
