OBJECTIVE

● We aimed to make a conveyor belt product

counter by implementing IoT to count the
number of product passed through the conveyor
belt and also to measure its speed.

● To monitor and control the conveyor belt using

an android application.
5

TARGET DELIVERABLES

● Keeping the track of number of products that

has been manufactured from any location using
IOT.
● Getting the notification whenever production has
been started on android mobile.
● Turing ON and OFF of belt conveyor from
anyplace by the authorised person from android
mobile application
● Keeping the track of daily manufacturing from
any location with the help of mobile phone.
● Simulation of the project due to the pandemic.
6

METHODOLOGY:
• The working of conveyor belt (LED in prototype
and software) is controlled using the on/off switch
on the app.
• An IR sensor is placed in proximity of the belt.
• As the product passes by, the sensor increments
the counter.
• Counter records the number of products passing
through the sensing range for an hour.
• The count is stored in the Blink database. An
update is also sent to the mobile application.
• Using Arduino to design the IR sensor counting
circuit.
• The simulation is done is Proteus 8 Professional.

3D MODEL CONSTRUCTION
ALGORITHM

MODEL/HARDWARE

❑ CONVEYOR BELT:
1. Wooden planks; For the support structure
2. Thermocol (Polystyrene); durability issue
3. Axle; For movement of the rubber strip
4. Motor; For providing power to move the belt
5. Rubber Strip; Works as the conveyor belt

❑ IR SENSOR UNIT:
1. Node MCU; The open source IOT platform used as the
connection base
2. Breadboard; Used as socket for connecting the
components
3. IR Sensor; Main sensor used as a counter here
4. LED; Used as an indicator
8

SOFTWARE:

❑ ARDUINO IDE:
1. Code for a counter circuit
2. LEDs for indicating presence of an object
3. Time delay function used to create gaps in
between the loops
4. Values from the IR Sensor are recorded in the
code

❑ BLYNK SOFTWARE:
1. The connection in between software and hardware
is established
2. Pre-built packages are included to make the code
short and precise
3. Variables are set accordingly
4. Connectivity and counter function is put under a
loop and guided by an “if ” function
5. Android app is made in the phone and connected
with the code

APPLICATIONS
❑ Conveyor systems are commonly used in many
industries, including mining, automotive, agricultural,
computer, electronic, food processing, aerospace,
pharmaceutical, chemical, bottling and canning, print
finishing and packaging.

❑ Although a wide variety of materials can be conveyed,
some of the most common include food items such as
beans and nuts, bottles and cans, automotive
components, scrap metal, pills and powders, wood and
furniture and grain and animal feed.

❑ It can be used in handling general material such as

those moving boxes along inside a factory and bulk
material handling such as those used to transport large
volumes of resources and agricultural materials, such
as grain, salt, coal, ore, sand and more.

❑ They are also commonly used in postal sorting offices

and airport baggage handling systems.
19

CONCLUSION
Though we have many product counters available but
the novelty in our idea is you can sit in any corner of
the world and know about the number of products. It
helps in many industries. We don’t need to manually go
and keep a check. App helps us to build a relationship
and loyalty with customers, visibility, accessibility as
well as strengthen brand, and many more, strengthen
their core business activities and increase growth. Due
to this pandemic most of the industrial work are being
done from home only and for work from home one can
easily keep the track of manufacturing from anywhere
and also can operate the manufacturing unit from
home.
