Summer Vacation Training Report Guidelines for

MBA 2.3 2019-2021


Subject Name- Summer Vacation Training Report
Course Code-17IMG23C4 Total mark-100

Introduction:
Summer Vacation Training is a cross-functional experience for the students, which would
be a simulation of real work load, work culture, technical skills, team building, decision making,
social and interpersonal skills, communication skills and respective domain knowledge as a
complete perspective. The Summer Vacation Training helps in building an orientation
among the students on, how concepts are linked with the decision/strategy making in the
corporate and how different scenarios are tackled. Therefore, students are encouraged to take up
time bound multi-disciplinary and goal oriented internships, aiming at the futuristic contribution
to his/her employability.

a. Objectives

● Become time-bound, multi-disciplinary, goal orientated, innovative team players


● Become aware of the business and the commercial environment by understanding the
key factors that contribute to the success of an organization where they work for
internship and the industry in which the organization works
● Survive with insufficient information and resources during work tenure
● Demonstrate high level of critical thinking and lateral thinking for achieving the best
outcomes in the work assigned during the internship

b. Learning Outcomes

Students, who successfully complete this course, should be able to:

LO1: Work in a non-simulated, team-based and uncertain environment.


LO2: Experience the responsibilities, tasks, and relationships involved in managerial
work at a level appropriate to a first-year post-graduate student of a business
school.
LO3: Apply critical thinking and lateral thinking approaches to discovering the business
issues involved or embedded in the internship work assigned to them.
LO4: Propose and execute their internship as a problem solving/issue management
project to provide appropriate recommendations to the organization.
The Student Interns are required to follow the Project Report guidelines template to bring
uniformity and standardization in the report structure to be submitted.

General Guidelines

1. Each student intern will have to submit two copies of the Project Report. One copy of the
report will be returned to the student intern.
2. Project report must be duly signed by the student intern and faculty mentor.
3. Project report should be spiral bound with a transparent cover sheet on the front and colored
at the back.
4. Good quality white A4 size paper should be used for typing.
5. The text material should be typed with one and a half spacing between the lines. Twelve
point font size is to be used in Times New Roman font.
6. Text should be justified (Ctrl +J).
7. A left-hand margin of approximately 3-3.5 cm is to be left for adequate space for binding.
The top margin of the first page and of the first page of each succeeding chapter/Section
should be 4 cms. Other top margins, the right side and bottom margins should be a minimum
of 2.5 cm in size.
8. All text pages should be numbered at the bottom center of the pages.
9. Table and figure numbers are to be written at the bottom of the table/ figure along with
source.
10. The Project Report should range in length between 40-60 pages with a deviation of three to
five pages.
11. The project report should be printed strictly according to the guidelines.

3. Acknowledgement
4. Company Certificate
5. Internal Guide Certificate
6. Table of contents

Chapter Scheme:

1. Introduction to Sector/Company
● Brief profile of the Industry including its current status from which the company
belongs.
● Explain the nature of the Organization and its business (service/production/trading
etc), i.e., type of industry & business in which the company is operating. Mention
specific functional area, if any, such as marketing, finance, HR, logistics etc, in which
the company is operating.
● Company’s vision & mission.
● Product range of the company.
● Size (in terms of manpower & turnover) of organization.
● Organization structure of the company.
● Market share & position of the company in the industry.
2. Review of the Assignments
● Provide information on what specific assignments have been assigned to the intern, what
are the roles and responsibilities.
● Provide a review, what is the importance of these roles and responsibilities in an
organization?
3. Project Objectives
● It should be pragmatic and consistent with the title of the report and achievable during the
tenure of internship within the prescribed schedule.
4. Action Plan
● Flow of working, work process, working domain
● Describe the action plans to achieve the desired objectives during the internship with
specific timelines against each objective.
5. SWOT Analysis
● SWOT analysis for the Organization.
● SWOT analysis for the specific project.
6. Findings
● To be presented and supported by facts & figures in narrative form.
● Discuss rational and logic for drawing inferences.
● Be clear, crisp and relevant.
● Don’t use arbitrary instances.
7. Recommendations
● Recommendations based on results of the project is to be provided in detail
● All recommendations must be evaluated on the parameters of cost verses benefit.
