When I Survey the Wondrous Cross
What A Friend We Have In Jesus
When I survey the wondrous cross Did e’er such love and sorrow meet,
What a Friend we have in Jesus On which the Prince of glory died, Or thorns compose so rich a crown?
Can we find a friend so faithful,
All our sins and griefs to bear My richest gain I count but loss,
Who will all our sorrows share
What a privilege to carry And pour contempt on all my pride. His dying crimson, like a robe,
Jesus knows our every weakness
Everything to God in prayer
Take it to the Lord in prayer. Spreads o’er His body on the tree;
O what peace we often forfeit, Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast,
O what needless pain we bear, Then I am dead to all the globe,
Are we weak and heavy laden, Save in the death of Christ my God! And all the globe is dead to me.
All because we do not carry
Cumbered with a load of care All the vain things that charm me most,
Everything to God in prayer.
Precious Saviour, still our refuge I sacrifice them to His blood. Were the whole realm of nature mine,
Take it to the Lord in prayer That were a present far too small;
Have we trials and temptations
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee, See from His head, His hands, His feet,
Is there trouble anywhere Love so amazing, so divine,
Take it to the Lord in prayer; Sorrow and love flow mingled down!
We should never be discouraged Demands my soul, my life, my all.
In His arms He'll take and shield
Take it to the Lord in prayer
thee, Thou wilt find a solace there.
