Acknowledgement
The researchers would like to express our sincere gratitude to our school
Principal II Mr. Eliseo Casidsid for approving the researchers permission letter
and allowing to conduct the research study in Boracay National High School. Also
for the researchers Research report Teacher Mrs.Romeluzvie T. Nabor for the
undying support for the research study and giving the researchers motivation
guidance and immense knowledge to pursue this research. The researchers also
want to thank the panel judges: Mrs.Violah Sastre, Mr. Arnold Rogan and Mr.
Fredie Gomez, for their encouragement and enlightenment to the researchers.

The researchers also acknowledge the advisers and subject teachers of grade
7 students of Boracay National High School for letting the researchers interfere
with their classes and allow their students to participate and to the grade 7 students
who are willing to cooperate with researchers.

To the researchers parents who show full support financially and allowed
them to finish this study together. And to other teacher gave courage to the
researchers by giving good comments about the research topic. Lastly to God who
made this research successful by give the researchers a strength and wisdom.

Abstract
Reading is the complex cognitive process of decoding symbols to derive
meaning. It is a form of language processing. While reading skills is ability of
individuals to read, comprehend and interpret written word on a reading materials.
This study aims determine the reading performance of Grade 7 of Boracay
National High School during the S.Y 2019-2020. A total of 242 respondents, the
researchers used descriptive design to gather the data needed for the study.

The objectives of the researchers for the study were answered relevantly.
The researchers find out that the factors affecting the grade -7 students are their
reading skills. The researchers found out that there are 48 (19.8%) grade -7
students who have a high school level of reading, 86 (35.5%) were 8 th grade level
of reading, 47(19.4%) were 7th grade level of reading, and 21(8.7%) were 6 th grade
level of reading. There are 8(3.3%) of respondents read only a few words correctly
and they are considered as a non-readers. Furthermore, most of the students can
read the words correctly; however, there are a small percentage of the respondents
needed attentions as they have so many mispronounced, skipped and unfamiliar
words.

The result will be interpreted by using the table, frequency, and percentage.
The data will be analysed by counting the frequency of their score and the grade of
the respondents reading level based on the slosson tool.
