combinations
2)      Seismic & Wind loading code- Indian Code (IS 1893 & IS 875 resp.)

Table-1:
Below are  AISC-7-10 LRFD design load combinations If loading is
as per IS875 & IS 1893 to avoid under design of structure
1.       1.4DL
2.       1.2DL+1.6Lr+0.5 0.8 WL
3.          1.2 DL + 1.6LL + 0.5 LLr
4.        1.2DL + 1.0 LL+ 1.6LLr
5.        1.2DL+1.0LL+0.5LLr+1.0 1.6WL
6.       0.9DL+1.0 1.6WL
7.        1.2DL+1.0LL+1.0 1.4 EQ
8.         0.9DL+1.0 1.4 EQ

A. Wind Load combination Explanation-

The magnitudes of the mapped wind speeds in ASCE 7-10 now are set at strength limit
states values, and thereby specifies loads directly applicable for strength design.
This means that the strength design load factor on wind loads is changed from previous
editions (ASCE 7-05)' value of 1.6 to 1.0 in the new edition.

For allowable stress design, wind loads based on the mapped wind speeds are reduced by
applying a factor of 0.6 to bring them into line with service load magnitudes.
Refer below snapshot indicating changes made in ASCE7-10 wrt ASCE-7-05.

Wind speed definition in ASEC7-10 is totally different. Please refer the following map of
ASEC7-10 for better understanding.

Please also refer to the following wind maps of ASCE7-2005 against ASCE7-2010

Load combinations as per ASCE-05 & ASCE-10.

B)     Seismic Load combination Explanation- ASCE7-10 is using ultimate limit state for
seismic load calculations and based on that load combinations for LRFD & ASD are
mentioned.
Refer ASCE 7-10 clause no. C 2.4.1 (Basic combinations) snap shot as given below

2.       1.2 DL + 1.6LL + 0.5 LLr 2.       1.2 DL + 1.6LL + 0.5 LLr
3.          1.2DL+1.6Lr+0.8 WL 3.          1.2DL+1.6Lr+0.5 WL

8.         0.9DL+1.0 EQ 8.         0.9DL+1.0 EQ

It is clear that, ASCE-7-10, seismic load calculation is based on strength principles

whereas IS 1893, seismic load is working load.

Conclusion/ Recommendations-

While using ASCE 7-10 LRFD load combinations, IS1893 seismic load shall be converted to
ultimate load.

Final load combinations are listed in the above Table-1.
