A3 TEST INSTRUCTIONS FOR HYDRAULIC LIFTS

Document Date 11/2012

Document Version V1.0
ARL-300 Software Version V2.19
1. Operating the A3 safety valve with ARL-300 lift controller

1.1. Activating the A3 safety valve

• “A3 VALVE” parameter in the menu should be selected as “INSTALLED”

1.2. Setting the time delay of safety valve A3

• The "A3 VALVE DELAY" parameter should be set to the value recommended by the valve manufacturer.
According to the time set in this parameter, while moving down the safety valve A3:
- At start, pulls as the time set earlier than the down travelling valves.
- At landing, falls as the time set later than the down travelling valves.

Down travelling valves (RVC and RVD relays):

tRE:Time set with " A3 VALVE
DELAY" parameter
A3 safety valve (RE relay): tRE tRE

1.3. Periodic valve self-monitoring adjustment

Must be set as.recommended by the manufacturer of hydraulic valves.

1.3.1. If valve self-monitoring is not required:

• "A3 VALVE CHECK" parameter in the menü should be selected as "DISABLED".
When A3 safety valve is pilot-controlled check valve (one-way locking valve) this method can be used.
When the "A3 VALVE DELAY" parameter is set to the value recommended by the manufacturer of hydraulic valve, the
safety valve A3 is not used as an element which controls acceleration and braking of the lift at a normal run-time,
therefore self-monitoring is not required. (EN 81-2 + A3 substance 9.13.3).

1.3.2. If valve self-monitoring is required:

• "A3 VALVE CHECK" parameter in the menü should be selected as "ENABLED".
This method can be applied in case of using two serial working hydraulic valves. A3 safety valve and traveling down
valve is energized at the same time, therefore self-monitoring is required.
Self-monitoring test, should be done a one-off, each time the lift arrives to the bottom floor . While the lift is at the bottom
floor and there is no record or call:
- ARL-300 first, holds the travel valves non-energized, and the A3 the safety valve is energized (relay RE pulls),
and waits for a certain period of time at this position. In the meantime, 142 (*) signal must not be interrupted
(the cabin shoul not move dow more than ~ 2 cm). If the 142 signal is interrupted during this time, the ARL-300
gives "H23:A3 HDU VALVE TEST ERROR" error and takes the lift out of service permanently. This error does
not recover even if the power is switched off and on. To correct the error "ERASE FAULT LIST" parameter
should be used to delete the error list in the menu.
- ARL-300 then holds the A3 safety valve non- energized and energizes only the down slow travel (RVD relay
pulls), and waits for a certain period of time at this position. In the meantime, if the 142 signal interrups, (if the
car moves down more than ~ 2 cm), ARL-300 gives "H23:A3 HDU VALVE TEST ERROR" error and takes the
lift out of service permanently. This error does not recover even if the power is switched off and on. To correct
the error "ERASE FAULT LIST" parameter should be used to delete the error list in the menu.
- If the 142 signal is not interrupted during both tests (if the cabinet does not move down more than ~ 2 cm), the
lift resumes normal operation.
- During the test, if any records or calls comes, the test is terminated before completing and the relevant records
answered.

*:ARL-300 menu " Selector Type" parameter "ML1 & ML2 COUNTER" is assumed.In "ML1 & ML2
COUNTER" mode, if the car gets out of the levelling area, 142 signal is cut off. In "ML1&2 A3 COUNTER" mode,
if the car gets out of the levelling area, the 142 signal comes.
1.3.3. Valve self-monitoring function test

a) An automatic error-checking test is performed:

- Car is taken to the bottom floor
- The lift is blocked for records or calls
- After waiting for a certain period of time (~ 40 seconds) ARL-300 will launch self-monitoring test (RE relay pulls).
- After waiting a while (~ 40 seconds), self-monitoring test is completed correctly and then the lift continues to
operate normally.
b) Single valve error in self-monitoring test is simulated:
- The car is taken to the top floor first, and then taken back to the bottom floor.
- The lift is blocked for records or calls
- After waiting for a certain period of time (~ 40 seconds) ARL-300 card, will launch self-monitoring test.
- 3-5 seconds after the RE relay on the ARL-300 card pulls, the 142 signal connection is removed by hand.
- It can be seen that ARL-300 card gives "H23:A3 HDU VALVE TEST ERROR" error and the lift gets out of the service.
- Even if the power is switched off and on, ARL-300 card continues to give "H24: UCM DETECTION ERROR" error.
- "ERASE FAULT LIST" parameter should be used to delete the error list in the menu. And then the UCM Error is
corrected and the lift continues to operate normally.
c) Single valve error in self-monitoring test is simulated:
- The lift is blocked for records or calls when it is at the bottom floor.
- After waiting for a certain period of time (~ 40 seconds) ARL-300 card, will launch self-monitoring test.
- 3-5 seconds after the RVD relay on the ARL-300 card pulls, the 142 signal connection is removed by hand.
2. Calculation of the stopping distance in case of UCM (Unintended Car Movement) in downward direction

Prior to testing unintended movement of the car, the stopping distance of the protection system with the worst-case data
(with the worst load condition and the drive / control system failure due to maximum acceleration) must be theoretically
calculated. The calculated stopping distances should be appropriate to the distances shown in Section 4.
Response time of the components (ms):

Component Response time (max.)

ARL-300 door-bridging circuit Panasonic-NAIS SFS3-DC24V or 10 ms
Omron G7SA-3A1B DC24
ML1 door-zone magnetic switch ARKEL MTM 10 ms

The chart below shows the theoretical curve of the car in case of UCM in worst case:

V (m/s)

vmax = 1.3 m/s

Xdz X1 X2 Xsv

t1 t2 t (s)

Xdz: Max. door zone = 200 mm (Max. 40 cm strip magnet can be used)

t1: Max. response time of the ML1 magnetic switch = 10 ms

X1: Vmax * t1 = 1,3 m/s * 10 ms = 13 mm

t2: Max. response time of the door-bridging circuit = 10 ms

X2: Vmax * t1 = 1,3 m/s * 10 ms = 13 mm

Vmax = Maximum speed of a hydraulic lift when leaving the door zone = 1,3 m/s (see Note-1)

Note-1: In the worst case, the speed that the A3 safety valve must stop the lift is 0,3 m/s more than the rated speed.
For higher speed the lift must be stopped by the pipe explosion valve. In the worst case this speed is assumed as 1,3
m/s.

X(total) = Maximum total stopping distance allowed: 1000 mm (see Note-2)

Note-2: For cabinets in which height of the car door is 2000 mm, the permitted stopping distance is 1000 mm.

When 40 cm strip magnet used, max. permitted braking distance for A3 safety valve can be calculated as follows (Xsv):
Xsv = X(total) – (Xdz + X1 + X2) = 1000 – (200 + 13 + 13) = 774 mm

If this braking distance is not sufficient for the A3 safety valve, then the door zone magnets need to be shortened. Door
zone strip magnets used in ARL-300 control systems are 30 cm. When 30 cm strip magnets are used, the remaining
braking distance for A3 valve will be as follows:

(Xsv) = 774 + 50 = 824 mm.

3. Permitted Car Stopping Distances in UCM (Unintended Car Movement) Case

In unintended movement of the car, the permitted stopping distances to stop the cabinet is as below:

Car

Shaft

Floor

Apron

Car entrance

- The car shouldn’t be more distant than 1,2 m from the floor. (For cabins with 2m height this distance is 1 m).
- The falling gap from the car or the floor to the shaft must not exceed 200 mm.
- Must have a minimum height of 1 m escape.
- These values must be provided in all values, including 100% of the rated load.
4. Considerations before UCM (Unintended Car Movement) test

4.1. Before starting the test, the required connections and settings described shall be checked.

4.2. If power is cut off while the lift is at door zone, ARL-300 controller activates door bridging function after one proper
travel. At the first travel after the power is on, ARL-300 controller checks ML1-ML2 door zone signals. If there is no fault
and no short circuit at ML1-ML2 door zone signals then door bridging function is activated.

4.3. With the firmware version V2.16 or later, a test function for UCM safety valve is provided in ARL-300 menu. This test
function should be used for UCM test.

4.3.1. To be able to use the UCM test function, the door bridging function should be enabled as shown below:
- Menu > “DOOR PRE OPENING” > “ENABLED”

4.3.2. There is a parameter in the menu named “UCM Test Mode”. This parameter has 3 options:

- DISABLED: Disables the UCM Test Mode.

- Test with slow speed: Enables the UCM Test Mode with slow speed.
- Test with fast speed: Enables the UCM Test Mode with high speed.

This setting is not stored in the memory. After the power is switched off and then switched on, the “UCM Test Mode”
parameter turns to “DISABLED”.

4.3.3. Set “UCM Test Modu” parameter to “Test with fast speed” and exit from the menu. ARL-300 does the
followings:
- Closes the doors
- Disables landing calls and car commands
- Activates door bridging circuit (door contacts are bridged)
- Works in “MANUEL MOVMENT” mode only on the card. In this mode, the car can be moved by pressing and
holding on the direction buttons (Up or Down) on the ARL-300 control card.
- When down direction button is pressed and hold, the car moves with high speed in the down direction

4.3.4. The UCM test shall be done with doors closed for safety purposes. But in order to simulate an open door, the door
safety circuit needs to be interrupted manually after door circuits are bridged (after UCM test function is enabled). To do
this, remove the wire from terminal 130 on the KBK-5 board to open the door safety circuit.

4.3.5. In case of UCM, ARL-300 gives “H24:UCM DETECTION ERROR” error and this blocks the lift permanently, even if
the power is switched off and on. To correct this error the fault list should be cleared by using "ERASE FAULT LIST"
parameter. To do this:
- Enter menu and come to “ERASE FAULT LIST” parameter.
- First, press up button and then press down button to clear the fault list.

5. UCM (Unintended Car Movement) Test Procedure

UCM test to simulate the worst load condition, can be done by moving fully loaded car, down from the top.

a) Move the car to the top floor by giving a call

b) Load the car with the rated load

c) Enable the UCM test function (see 4.3.2)

d) Remove the wire from terminal 130 on the KBK-5 board (see 4.3.4)

e) Press the down button on ARL-300 keypad. Drive accelerates to rated speed in the down direction (see 4.3.3)

f) After leaving the door zone, because door bridging is interrupted, the power of the A3 safety valve is also switched off.
An emergency stop (UCM fall) occurs. ARL-300 gives “H24:UCM DETECTION ERROR” error.

g) Measure the stopping distance. Test is successful if the stopping distance is lower than the limit value. (see 3)

h) By switching the power off and on ARL-300 card continues to give "H24: UCM DETECTION ERROR" error.
i) Delete error list in the ARL-300 menu by using "ERASE FAULT LIST" parameter. UCM error is recovered and the lift
returns to the normal operation(see 4.3.5)
