ARL-300 UCM Test Instructions for Gearless Machines (With Door Bridging Option)

1. Considerations Before UCM (Unintended Car Movement) Test

1.1. Relevant staff should take necessary precautions for the safety of the passengers as well as himself
of all actions at risk.
- Prevent the elevator run by someone else,
- Be sure that there is nobody in the elevator hoist way,
- Be sure that all elevator doors are closed.

1.2. If the power is switched off at door zone, ARL-300 controller activates door bridging function after
one correct travel. At first travel after the power is restored, ARL-300 checks ML1-ML2 door zone enable
signals. If there is no fault and no short circuit at ML1-ML2 door zone signals then door bridging function
is activated.

1.3. With the firmware version V2.16 or later, a test function for UCM is provided in ARL-300 menu. This
test function should be used for UCM.

1.3.1. To be able to use the UCM test function, the door bridging function should be enabled as shown
below:

- Menu > "DOOR PRE OPENING"> “ENABLED”

1.3.2. The menu includes “UCM Test Mode” parameter. This parameter has 3 options :

- "DISABLED": Disables the UCM Test Mode

- "With slow speed": Enables the UCM Test Mode with slow speed
- "With fast speed": Enables the UCM Test Mode with high speed

This setting is not stored in the memory. If the power is switches off and on, the “UCM Test Mode”
parameter turns to “DISABLED” setting.

1.3.3. When the UCM Test Mode is set to “With high speed”, ARL-300 does the followings:

- Closes the doors

- Disables landing calls and car commands
- Activates door bridging circuit (doors are bypassed)
- Works in only “MANUEL MOVMENT” mode over the board. In this mode, lift can be moved in the
desired direction by pressing the direction buttons (Up or Down) on the ARL-300 controller board.
- When down direction button is pressed and hold, lift moves with high speed in the down
direction.

1.3.4. The UCM test should be done with doors closed for safety purposes. But open doors should be
simulated during testing. The open doors can be simulated by interrupting door safety circuit (130
signal) after door circuits are bridged by ARL-300 controller (after UCM test function is enabled).

1.3.5. In case of UCM, ARL-300 gives "H24:UCM DETECTION ERROR" error. The lift is kept out of
service permanently. This error does not reset even if the power is switched off and on. To reset the
error "ERASE FAULT LIST" parameter should be used to delete the error list in the menu. This
procedure should be as described:

- Enter to the menu. Select "ERASE FAULT LIST" parameter.

- Press first to up and then to down direction buttons.

1.4. In order to simulate the worst load condition in UCM test:

- the empty car is moved in up direction at the top of the shaft (from the one below floor to the top) and
- the fully loaded car is moved in down direction at the bottom of the shaft (from the one above floor to
the bottom)
2. UCM (Unintended Car Movement) Test Procedure

2.1. UCM Test in Up Direction with Empty Car

a) Move the car to the one below of the top floor.

b) Empty the car

c) Enable the UCM Test Mode (see 1.3.2)

d) Remove the connection from terminal 130 on the KBK-5 board (see 1.3.4)

e) Press and hold the up direction button on the ARL-300 controller card. Move the car with pre-
defined speed in up direction (see 1.3.3)

f) After leaving the door zone, door bridging circuit hardware will open, because of the 130 signal is
interrupted. In this case, the power of the machine brakes will be also cut off because the main
contactors fed by safety circuit will fall and an emergency UCM stop occurs. ARL-300 gives
"H24:UCM DETECTION ERROR" error. The lift is kept out of service permanently

g) Measure the stopping distance. Test is successful if the stopping distance is within acceptable
values

h) Even if the power is switched off and on ARL-300 card continues to give "H24: UCM DETECTION
ERROR" error

i) Delete error list in the ARL-300 menu by using "ERASE FAULT LIST" parameter. UCM error is
recovered and the lift returns to the normal operation(see 1.3.5)

2.2. UCM Test in Down Direction with Fully Loaded Car

a) Move the car to the one above of the bottom floor

b) Load the car with the rated load

c) Enable the UCM test function (see 1.3.2)

d) Remove the connection from terminal 130 on the KBK-5 board (see 1.3.4)

e) Press the down direction button on the ARL-300 controller board. Move the car with pre-defined
speed in down direction (see 1.3.3)

f) After leaving the door zone, door bridging circuit hardware will open, because of the 130 signal is
interrupted.

Test is successful if the stopping distance is within acceptable
values

h) Even if the power is switched off and on ARL-300 board continues to give "H24: UCM DETECTION
ERROR" error.

i) Delete error list in the ARL-300 menu by using "ERASE FAULT LIST" parameter. UCM error s
recovered and the lift returns to the normal operation(see 1.3.5)
