Principal’s Message
It is heartening to note that this academic year two new M.Tech. Programs namely Machine Design and
Computer Science & Engineering were started besides enhancing the intake of UG programs from 450 to
540. VVCE team has successfully hosted the second International Conference on Current Trends in
Engineering & Management from 17th to 19th July 2014. The hard work of students, staff and
management has comprehensively enhanced the status of VVCE. To cite a few achievements, VVCE is
given AAA rating by Career 360 Magazine and was featured on CNN-IBN as Shining Engineering Colleges
of India.

Each department is conducting a number of student-centric events and in addition, a lot of training
programs are being conducted to enhance life skills and employability of our students. Let all of us strive
together as a strong unified team to make VVCE a center of excellence in engineering and management
education. I thank the editorial team of VVCE times for its efforts to bring out this newsletter. I wish all
the students and staff a productive academic year.

 Award of Ph. D Degree

 Dr. B. C. Ashok, Associate Professor in Mechanical Engineering was awarded Doctor of

Philosophy in the stream of Mechanical Engineering by Visvesvaraya Technological
University, Belagavi for his thesis “Maintenance Management Practices and their
Effects on the Performance of Critical Equipment in Industries”.

 Dr. K. B. Vinay, Associate Professor in Mechanical Engineering was awarded Doctor of

Philosophy in the stream of Mechanical Engineering by Visvesvaraya Technological
University, Belagavi for his thesis “A Study of the Technology Business Incubators and
an Analysis of the Key Drivers and Inhibitors”.

 Presentations / Research Publications

 Dr. Naveen Prakash G. V, Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering visited San

Diego, California state, USA from 15th to 21st November 2013 to participate in ASME
2013 International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition (IMECE). He
presented his technical paper entitled “optimization of Air Plane Wing Rib Using
Finite Element Analysis” in IMECE.

 Prof. S A Mohan Krishna, Associate Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering

of our college presented a paper on "An Experimental Investigation on Specific Heat
Capacity and Enthalpy of Al 6061-SiC-Gr Hybrid Metal Matrix Composites using
Differential Scanning Calorimetry" at Doha, Qatar, Saudi Arabia during January 7-8,
2015.

 Participation in TRYST-2015 at IIT, Delhi

Mr. Nithin S, Mr. Nirant M Chillimbi, Mr. Noel Reuben, Mr. R. Rahul Singh, Mr. Pawan
Kumar Yadav, Mr. Nesar M N and Mr. Himanshu Tiwari of 6 th semester Mechanical
Engineering and Mr. Hitesh of 4th semester have participated in the final rounds of
Tryst-2015 at IIT-Delhi held from 27th February to 2nd March, 2015.

 Winners of Inter-collegiate Technical Paper Presentation Contest

The students of Department of Mechanical Engineering, Mr. Nithesh Suvarna, Mr.

Aakil, Mr. Ajesh S, Mr. Sayan Surendran, Mr. Sathvik Rao, Mr. R Karthik and
Mr. Kumar have excelled in Inter-collegiate Technical Paper Presentation Contest
organized by Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE ) held at Coimbatore recently.
 The winners of the contest are seen with the Management, Principal, Head of the
Department and staff members.

Extra-Curricular
 VVCE One Among India’s Top 30 Student Start-ups

Tata First Dot (TFD) is India’s first national platform for student start-ups. It is an
annual cynosure event powered by National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN).
Every year India’s top 30 student start-up will be announced in the event. In Tata
First Dot 2014 Asperians of VVCE stole the limelight for an innovative start-up. Our
“iPrint3D” has been judged for a slot among the top five start-up at this national
level Competition. Nikhil Furtado, Rachith T S, Gaurav (Students of 8 th semester
Mechanical Engineering) and Abhishek (an alumnus of VVCE), have been working
on this startup.

ACTIVITIES IN DEPARTMENT
Invited Talks

Workshops & FDP

 The Department of Mechanical Engineering conducted a Two Day Workshop on

“Hands-on Modeling of RC Hover Craft & Water rocketry’” on 28 th and 29th March
2015 for the students of Mechanical Engineering. Mr. Vinod Kumar of NHCE,
 Bengaluru was the resource person who imparted training on the design and
fabrication of Hovercrafts and Water Rockets. About 40 students from various
institutions participated in the workshop.
 The Department of Mechanical Engineering conducted a One Week Faculty
Development Programme on ‘Refrigeration & Air Conditioning’ during January
19 – 24, 2015. Mr. D Nirmal Ram, National President, ISHRAE, New Delhi was the
chief guest for the inaugural function. Mr. D Nirmal Ram, delivered a keynote
address on “Energy Saving Trends.” The total number of participants in the FDP
was 40. Many resource persons from all parts of Karnataka delivered the
technical talks on the current trends on Refrigeration and Air Conditioning.
Many students, faculty members participated in this FDP.

INDUSTRIAL VISITS
 Department of Mechanical Engineering had organized a one day trip to Hindustan
Aeronautics Limited (HAL), Bengaluru for the students of 6th semester on 11th
April 2015. Students were exposed to many manufacturing facilities within Engine
Division which produce high precision components of various materials used in
Aero engines. Students found this visit to be very informative and provided them
with an insight into aerospace and manufacturing areas.
