What I Need to Know
To enhance your over – all well-being, you must embrace this opportunity to gain
health literacy. This time, you need to define community and environmental health through
understanding its scope and some aspects or even elements that affect human health. As
you go deeper to its concepts, you are to attain knowledge on the current situation of our
community in the process of analysing certain human activities cognizant to the balance of
nature. This way, you would be familiarizing the process for determining environmental
health and its importance to human’s well - being.

What’s In

Education can create better opportunities for better health. Nowadays, the learners
must be continually assisted to be equipped in their utmost need for necessary skills, values,
and even awareness that promote life-long health and wellness.
Grade 8 lessons in Health has prepared you to become a responsible individual
facing a bigger world in the future. You may have start to practice values and attitudes on
maintaining healthy habits and lifestyle even in the midst of peer pressure and bigger
circumstance.
Now in Grade 9, you are to face on everything external to us – the nature of
surroundings, as well as protecting and preserving everything around the edges of our
mother earth - its forces, including big and small life within the walls of our environment. It’s
time to examine the bigger picture between human and its community. How the environment
withstands human activities from our economic development and fast pace technology – is a
crucial aspect to consider. Hence, how our health could survive when our environment is
slowly deteriorating and indeed.
This could only mean that there is a challenge to educate yourself now to overhaul
the environment as it naturally benefits you as well in unexpected ways.

What Is It

Green means life or ecology. It represents positive human activity towards the
environment; while brown represents failure to maintain the balance of nature which may
resulted to poor community health.

Community refers to the people of a district or country considered collectively,


especially in the context of social values and responsibilities; society.
According to the Vitalyst Health Foundation, a healthy community is one where
people have the opportunity to make healthy choices, in environments that are safe, free
from violence, and designed to promote health.
Health is the condition of having freedom from illness and injury. It allows the
individual to effectively deal with the demands of daily life through a sound body, mind,
or spirit..
On the other hand, environmental health includes preventing disease and creating
health – supportive environments.
To understand more of community and environmental health, let us also define
community and environment through analysing the illustration below.

Importance of Environment to Human Health
