2. Why do you think Rizal created a sequel to Noli Me Tangere?

I think Rizal created a sequel to Noli Me Tangere to continue what he

was being started and to continue the fire burning among Filipinos that they
must be fully awakened about the happenings in the country. In order to
brought the consciousness of the Filipino that he should not be a slave in his own
country and should reclaim his birthright. The Philippines is supposed to be an
independent country but it remains beholden to other countries for its people's
livelihood. The Filipinos are caught in the never-ending tale of a people with a
short memory who never learned from the past and are forever oppressed.
Given this situation, Rizal would probably ask De Leon, Tolentino and
Guerrero to join him in making another sequel to "Noli Me Tangere."As we all
know that, in the El Filibusterismo, the message is clear regarding the present
system of governing the Philippines through corrupt and self- seeking officials
dominated by the friars and being submissive to their interests in one fashion
or another that can only be lead to disaster for Spain.Rizal's "Noli me Tangere"
and "El Filibusterismo" depicted the most important social ills that gripped
Philippine society under Spanish colonial rule. These novels were scathing
critiques of friar domination and corrupt governance.

At the same time, Rizal showed in these works how some Filipinos were
complicit in the colonial enterprise: from middle-class professionals who
remained silent in the face of wrongdoings to ostensibly religious churchgoers
who perpetuated repressive social structures. The "Noli" and "Fili" were not eye-
openers in the sense that Filipinos during Rizal's time did not have to read about
colonial abuses in a novel that was barely in circulation (colonial authorities
banned the book, and only a small number were smuggled into the country)
and written in a language that limited its accessibility to the educated elite —
such abuses were everywhere.

3. Is it really necessary for Rizal to create El Filibusterismo in order to send his

message to the Filipinos during his time? Why or why not?

For me, it is really necessary for Rizal to create El Filibusterismo in order to

send his message to the Filipinos during his time in the sense that, El
FIlibusterismo has a bigger impact during those times in the society ,for it serves
as an inspiration to the Filipino people. It brings a profound effect in the
Philippine society in terms of views about national identity, the catholic faith and
its influence on Filipinos choice and the governments issues of corruption, abuse
, distinction and on a larger scale the issues related to the effect of colonization,
the effects on the people’s lives and the cause for independence. Indeed, the
book awakened the Filipinos in the past and still awakening the Filipinos of today
to fight for what we believe is right . We may not be the victor always in every
battle but the most important is we continue to fight until our very last breath,
just like Rizal. The intention was very clear

Regarding the present system of governing the Philippines through corrupt and
self- seeking officials dominated by the friars and being submissive to their
interests in one fashion or another that can only be lead to disaster for Spain.
Everyone agrees on the fact that El Filibusterismo is far more dark and
brutal that Noli Me Tangere. With many events of murder, sexual abuse and
suicide, El Filibusterismo is a massive turning point not only for the plot but also for
the characters. Crisostomo Ibarra really did grow as a character in this book. He
is obliviously not the idealistic and open man he was once before. He became
vengeful, angry and in somewhat way, cunning and in my opinion, this
transformation of his is very much human and real. In terms of moral lesson, El
Filibusterismo is what I'd choose over Noli Me Tangere. El Filibusterismo showed us
how anger and vengeance can take over a person's being.

El FIlibusterismo also shares the theme that violence is not the answer with Noli
Me Tangere.

Indeed, as a Filipino, we should always be righteous and still choose

what is right over what is wrong. As the saying goes, "Do not do unto others what
you don't want others do unto you". We should be good so that people around
will also do good to us.
