GRADE 9 – QUADRATIC EQUATIONS

Learning Competency:
illustrates quadratic equations.

Concept
QUADRATIC EQUATIONS is an algebraic equation in the form of ax 2 + bx + c=0, where a ≠ 0. It is called quadratic
because the degree of the polynomial is 2.

Examples of quadratic equations:

7x2 + 4x = -23 7x 2 + 4y2 = -23 7x 2 + 4y2 – z2= -23
Quadratic Equation in one variable Quadratic Equation in two variables Quadratic Equation in three variables
(Equation of a Circle) (Quadric Surface)
Here we will focusing on the Quadratic Equations in one variable.
EXAMPLES of QUADRATIC EQUATIONS IN ONE VARIABLE
a2 + 3a = 12 x 2 = 3x + 7 2x 2 – 3x + 12 = 0 7 = x2 2x(3x + 2) = 0
here you will notice there are only one variable with the degree of 2 in every equation
NON-EXAMPLES of QUADRATIC EQUATIONS IN ONE VARIABLE
3a2 (a) = 13 7x=13 5x 2-2y2=10 3a2– 4a + 4 x3 + 3x2=18x
(a2)(a) will obtain a degree of 3 linear circular only an expression the degree is 3

ACTIVITY
I. Identify which of the following algebraic equations are Quadratic Equations in one
variable. Put HULI KA if it is a Quadratic Equation and DIKAKULONG if not.

1.) 52 − 3 = 2
2.) (2 + 2)7 = 25
3.) 2 − 25 = 0
4.) 22 = 25 − 3
5.) 4 − 3 = 0
6.) 3(2 − 2) = 9
7.) 2 − 2 = 7 + 3
8.) 0 = 92 − − 21
9.) 7( − 5) = 9
10.) 22 + 25 − 3 = 0
