EVENT MANAGEMENT REFLECTION PAPER

Reflection Paper in Unit 1, entitled "An Overview of the Tourism and Hospitality Industry"

This unit introduced what tourism is, it is to travel, to be away at home to do leisure. The
tourism industry provides activities, transports and accommodations to the travellers or we can
also called "guest". To travel to different places, the tourist must have enough money to spend
on the trip and buy some non-essential items like souvenirs. The tourist should also have
enough time to enjoy every moment of their leisure trip. We can say, not all the people can
afford this, mostly it's for wealthy or emerging middle class that have enough disposable
income. Why do people travel? sight seeing is one of the biggest reason, to see and understand
other people's culture. To see the history, folklore, cuisines, arts and handcraft.

The UN in 1994 classified tourism as three categories. First, tourism involving residents to travel
inside their country. The second is for foreigners to travel in a different states in specific
country. And the last one, outbound tourism that involves residents travel to another country.
But the outbound tourism had two conditions. Health protocols and legal restrictions which is
based on the country they will go.

The objective of this lesson is to recognize the importance of tourism and hospitality as an
employment sector and to consider the nature of a workforce. We have what we called
"Tourism Department" that promotes the nation's tourist interests. It is representing the
tourism industry in many various forms including social media platforms, articles, vlogs and
blogs. Introducing and maintaining tourism technology in the development of tourism. This
department if receiving budget from the government based on the proposed tourism
initiatives.

Reflection Paper in Unit 2, entitled "Overview of Event Management"

What is hospitality? This is one good trait that most Filipino have in their nature. It is in our
culture to be hospitable, even to strangers. It is an act of kindness in welcoming and looking
after the basic needs mainly in relation of food, drink and accommodation. When we talk about
HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY, it is referring to companies or organizations which provides food and
accommodation services to the travellers. We understand that working in this field could be
challenging. Different from other sectors, the hospitality industry is unique in its nature which
tends to be service oriented and has a strong exchange in the service delivery processes.

The hospitality industry have five characteristics which are product service mix, two way
communication, relationship building, diversity in culture and labor intensive. Product Service
Mix is for services that provides both tangible and intangible needs to the guest. Two Way
Communication is for guest and service staff to meet satisfaction and accommodate their needs
and expectations. Relationship Building is building customers satisfaction to create a long term
good impression and develop brand reputation. Diversity Culture talks about the staff who
work in a hospitality organization always have interaction with customers that has different
religion and background. This can cause some misunderstanding or some conflicts in their
values, that's why the staff must be open minded and understanding. Labor Intensive is creating
memorable experience for the customer especially to high ended customer that can leave a
good review to their service.

The objective of this lesson is understand the role of event management. Similar to the
hospitality industry, the main reason why do we need event management is to create and satify
the needs of the customers, bring a high quality and unforgettable experience to every guest.

EVENT MANAGEMENT REFLECTION PAPER

Reflection Paper in Unit 3, entitled "The Marketing of Events Event Stakeholder"

This unit defined "marketing" as management process that is responsible for identifying, anticipating
and satisfying customer requirements profitability. According to Philip Kotler, marketing is a social and
managerial process by which individuals or groups obtain what they need and what through creating
and exchanging products and value with others. Needless to say, marketing itself is producing and
distributing goods and services.

Marketing has been the biggest reason behind of companies success. It is true that effective marketing
will allow people to recognize the product and allows the organizations foreseen the best for their
business. There's a lot of factors that we need to consider in marketing. Location is one, we need to
make and draw attention to the public in a good and interesting way. Second, consider the economy, if
the economy is down, time to create products we can sell cheap yet profitable. Third, social factors that
creates attitude to what is appropriate in the situation.

SWOT analysis is the best guide to entrepreneurs whose just starting their business. You have to find
the strength, weakness, opportunity and threats of your own business. It is critical and needs to be
analyzed to come up with good results. Finding the weakness of your business is what I believe the one
we have to really know about. If you know your own weakness, you will expect the possibilities of
downfall so you can have a back up plan in case it starts to breakdown your business. Create plan A up
to E as possible, everything is possible if you have many competitors.

In marketing, you should know your target market. Focus on what you envision, use the strength of your
business to draw attention and make your product interesting, take it on your advantage. Target group
is not only for potential buyers, but also the media, sponsors, visitors, participants and government.
