Microwave Power Dividers

Power dividers are passive microwave components that are
used for power division or power combining .
Three key factors for a power divider are return loss, insertion
loss, and isolation
The ratio of incident power to transmitted power, in dB
terminology, is the insertion loss. The ratio of incident power
to the reflected power, in dB terminology, is the return loss.
The coupler or divider can have three, four, or more ports,
and they can all be lossless (ideally).
Power dividers are used in a variety of microwave circuits,
including antenna arrays, power amplifiers, modulators, and
balanced mixers. Typically, they work in the radio technology
industry.

Motivation
Various techniques were presented to develop a single band
out of phase power divider such as microstrip slot line ,
asymmetrical coplanar strip-lines and doublesided parallel
strip-lines (DSPSLs). But all the existing dual-band out of
phase power dividers have a nonplanar structure .
In addition, the output ports of the existing dual-band out of
phase power dividers are not on the same plane, which creates
a problem in connection to planar circuits.
Few designs for dual-band power dividers also exist in the
literature that provides in phase at one frequency and out of
phase at the other frequency. So, the power dividers cannot
be considered as dual-band out of phase power dividers. There
is a requirement of a dual-band out of phase power divider
compatible with microstrip circuits and having output ports
on the same plane.

Problem Statement I

Our major goal is to create a small dual-band out of phase

power divider that may be used in a microstrip circuit which
requires a Dual band quarter wave transmission line
(DBQWTL) to design it
Compared with the existing dualband out of phase power
dividers, the proposed power divider offers several benefits-
it is compact in size and contains fewer lumped components
minimum phase deviation and having output ports on the
same plane
explicit design technique and design equations are developed

Simulation and Results

We can see that the return loss S11 at the desired frequencies
is lesser than -10dB,which means that the input is matched in
the below result.
For the operating frequencies shown below, transmission
(S31)/(S21) of better than -3.45 dB(close to zero) was
obtained at the output ports, which means that there is very
less loss of power at the output port

Conclusion and Future Scope

This brief proposes, designs, implements, and tests a compact

dual-band out of phase power divider with microstrip capability.
The suggested dual-band quarter-wave TL was used to realise the
planned power divider. In terms of microstrip compatibility, the
suggested power divider differs from existing dual-band out of
phase power dividers. It also has a small footprint, low phase
deviation, output ports on the same plane, and a design with less
lumped components.
